Jenna Bush Hager gives update after suffering from painful fall live on TV

Jenna Bush Hager has given fans an update on her health after she suffered from a painful fall live on TV.

The Today show host, 44, was attempting to play an April Fool’s Day joke on her costar Willie Geist, 50, earlier this week when it completely backfired on her.

She had brought out what she had claimed was a $20,000 cake before she pretended to accidentally drop it.

But while she was trying to trick Geist, the TV star ended up suffering herself when she awkwardly slipped on the icing and fell.

She went tumbling down, landing painfully on her left knee.

Now, Bush Hager has reflected on the prank going wrong, while giving ‘worried’ viewers an update on how she was doing.

‘Evidently, some of you were worried about my body parts, and at this old age, you should,’ she joked during Thursday’s episode.

Thankfully, she revealed: ‘I caught myself, so no harm. I don’t even have a bruise, nope.’

The 44-year-old added: ‘The fall was real, and I think it’s a good time to tell you that if you accidentally put cake on the ground, icing is quite slippery. I showed it to my kids, and they said, “That’s karma, bro.”‘

Geist admitted that he knew immediately that it was a gag, adding that he assumed the fall was part of it.

‘I thought the fall was part of it, and I didn’t even move to help my friend off the ground, and I’m really sorry about that,’ he said.

He explained that when they brought up the idea of bringing out a $20,000 cake during meetings before the show he totally believed it was real.

But it was when she dropped it that it clicked that it was all a prank.

‘The minute I realized it wasn’t real was when you dumped it so quickly,’ he continued.

The fall comes just days ahead of Bush Hager’s co-host Savannah Guthrie’s anticipated TV return.

Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy, has been missing since February 1. Evidence suggests she was taken from her home in Arizona against her will.

The search that’s been seen since has yielded no suspects nor any indication of Nancy’s whereabouts, and after more than two months, the case remains ongoing.

Guthrie, 54, who has been a Today anchor for nearly 14 years, has been off the air for the search’s entirety. Craig Melvin, Carson Daly and former host Hoda Kotb have been holding down the fort in the meantime.

She will return to the show on Monday, April 6, and sources told Variety that the preliminary stretch will see showrunners work segments specifically around Guthrie.

The spell may also see Guthrie limited to stories that aren’t about crime or violence, at least at first, one of the insiders said.

A tone-down in Today’s usual lighthearted, comedic tone could also be seen, the same source said.
