Ukraine-Russia war latest: Starmer makes farewell visit to Kyiv after Moscow launches ballistic missile attack

Sir Keir Starmer said the UK’s “cast-iron” support of Ukraine will “always endure” on his final visit to the country as Prime Minister.

The outgoing Labour leader arrived in Kyiv on Thursday morning, where he will meet Volodymyr Zelensky.

He will tell the Ukrainian President that the UK’s commitment to backing Ukraine will continue once he is succeeded by Andy Burnham.

His visit came hours after Russia launched an overnight ballistic missile attack on the Ukrainian capital, killing at least two people and injuring six others, according to local officials.

In the capital, the attack caused fires at two warehouses, while a school was also damaged, the city’s mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

Ukraine’s Air Force said at least eight ballistic missiles were fired towards Kyiv, while waves of Shahed attack drones also targeted cities across the country. Air raid sirens sounded through the capital shortly before 1am local time as residents sought shelter.
