Australian cop stood down after allegedly assaulting his baby could face three years behind bars
A West Australian police officer who was stood down after he allegedly assaulted his five-week-old baby girl has been named and pictured for the first time.
Nickolas Wayne Peake, 30, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault when he appeared in Perth’s Midland Magistrates Court on Thursday.
The alleged incident occurred in Stratton in the city’s east last Saturday.
No details of the alleged assault were revealed in court.
The five-week-old baby girl was taken to Perth Children’s Hospital as a precaution.
Peake was charged by child abuse squad detectives on Sunday.
The court heard that protective conditions have been put in place for his wife and child since the incident, WA Today reported.
Barred from having any contact with them, Peake is currently living with his parents in South Yunderup and is undergoing counselling.

He was granted bail to reappear in the same court on October 13 for sentencing.
Flanked by a family member, Peake refused to answer questions from reporters as he left court.
He faces up to three years behind bars or a $36,000 fine.
Peake remains stood down from WA Police and will face an internal review.
‘The officer remains stood down from operational duties and the managerial process will continue,’ a spokesperson said.
