New York Mets star carted off after suffering scary head injury in brutal collision with teammate

New York Mets star Jared Young was carted off following a scary collision with his teammate during Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

With the Phillies leading 1-0 at the top of the sixth, Young was accidentally struck on the head by pitcher Nolan McLean.

As Justin Crawford sprinted toward first base, there appeared to be a miscommunication between McLean and Young.

In the end, both players attempted to gather the loose ball, with the pitcher catching his teammate in the face with his knee.

Young was left motionless, face first on the ground, with teammates immediately rushing to help the 31-year-old.

Mets staff ran on to treat Young, who was put in a neck brace and lifted on to a cart before being taken toward the locker room.

Shortly before the cart headed off the field, Young gave the crowd a thumbs up, sparking cheers around Citi Field.

It is not the first time this week that a Mets game has been marred by a scary injury. On Tuesday night, Baltimore Orioles pitcher Shane Baz revealed his arm ‘went numb’ after he was drilled in the elbow as a 105.1mph line drive from Bo Bichette#.

Baz was hit on his right elbow, with the power of the hit seeing the ball fly all the way to left field as Bichette recorded a base hit.

The starting pitcher immediately bent over in pain and held his arm after taking off his glove. He tried to throw a warmup pitch but sailed it over the backstop.

He was removed from the game but later claimed that was a cautious approach, and he believes he could have played on if he had a few more minutes to recover.
