The Swifites are truly glowing this week after their mother, Taylor Swift, announced that she has a new album on the way: The Life of a Showgirl. Taylor officially announced the news about her upcoming 12th album at 12.12 pm on August 12, but Miss Girl loves to lay down some clues.
Over the years, Taylor has made a habit of hiding meaning in her craft. From lyrics, video references to Instagram captions, Taylor makes every public decision represent something bigger, and as a result, her fans have been primed to dig deep into her creations to decipher and pinpoint what it all might mean.
Since the announcement, fans have sifted through Taylor’s every move with a fine-toothed comb for clues about the new era.
So, let’s get into all the easter eggs Taylor Swift has laid over the course of the Eras Tour to emotionally prepare us for this new shift.
The colour orange (and mint green)
One of the most noticeable representations of the new era is the new colour palette. Thanks to Taylor’s website, we know the new Era is represented by a glittery burnt-orange and a minty green, but before then, Taylor had been sprinkling some breadcrumbs by wearing orange throughout the last leg of her Eras tour.

Now that we know the colour scheme, though, the question on everyone’s lips is: why orange?
Well, there are two leading theories. The first is that Taylor chose orange — a blend of red and yellow — to represent her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. The album is rumoured to detail the couple’s love story, and red and yellow are the colours of his football team, the Kansas City Chiefs.

The second theory is my favourite. According to an X (formerly Twitter) user named Kaitlyn, the orange and mint green colour scheme could be representing the oxidation of copper.
“The colour scheme is copper oxidising because a showgirl is on a pedestal for the world and over time, in the public eye, they lose their shine… the weathering from being the target for the world’s misogyny,” she wrote.
One of the most famous examples in America is the Statue of Liberty. Considering Taylor’s Miss Americana documentary and nickname, I think Kaitlyn is onto something here.

A12
Back in October last year, Taylor posted a TikTok video of herself walking through a stadium holding her cat, Olivia Benson. She walks in front of a stand marked with “A12” and stops, taking off her sunnies before walking on. It seemed completely inconspicuous at the time, but now, fans reckon that the A12 sign represented August 12 and the new album announcement.
Spotify playlist
To usher in the new era, Taylor has made a Spotify playlist entitled “And, baby, that’s show business for you ❤️🔥”. It wasn’t long before fans clocked that every song on the playlist had been produced by Max Martin. The last time Max produced Taylor’s music was the 2017 Reputation era, so naturally, that has the Swifties absolutely buzzing.
As a result, many are speculating that Taylor’s long-term collaborator, Jack Antonoff, won’t be featured on this album.
does Spotify even have the infrastructure to handle a taylor swift max martin and shellbeck release

The lover house
Fans who witnessed the Eras Tour, might remember the iconic Lover house on set. The house was representative of Taylor’s career with each room reflecting a different album. With no rooms left in the house, fans were wondering where she’d go next. However, during Taylor’s performance of “Bad Blood”, she’d burn the house to the ground.
Now, with the flame heart emojis and the orange colour scheme, fans think the burning house represents the new era.
now her burning down the lover house makes sense #tslifeofashowgirl pic.twitter.com/RHFvtWVwyJ

The orange door
Each night of the Eras Tour, Taylor would wrap up by singing “Karma”. During the performance, an orange door would suddenly appear and descend down from the top of the stage.
Now, it’s pretty clear she was pointing to her next Showgirl steps.

12 weeks, 12 letters
Remember when Taylor was trapped in a longstanding legal battle over the ownership of her own master recordings? Well, in May, she announced that she got them all back. In true Taylor style, her announcement of Life Of A Showgirl came exactly 12 weeks after that.
Plus, in her handwritten announcement message, she conveniently included 12 letter ‘i’s on the word “this”. Fans believe it’s all connected.

‘Anti-Hero’ music video
This one has to be my favourite clue on the list. In 2022, Taylor released her hit track “Anti-Hero” from her album Midnights. The video clip showed Taylor turn to other versions of herself to avoid a bunch of ghosts following her. One of those party-loving versions is wearing a bedazzled, showgirl-esque orange outfit.
The best bit? During the clip, we see a paired-back Taylor wearing all white with the showgirl Taylor staring at her. Now, fans think that we were given easter eggs for The Tortured Poet’s Department and The Life Of A Showgirl.
HELLO?!
White outfit is TTPD
Orange and green is The Life of a Showgirl
