All the Characters in Sequel

Chris Pratt voices Mario, the lead character in the “Super Mario” franchise. Mario is an Italian plumber who lives in the Mushroom Kingdom with his younger twin brother, Luigi. Their adventures generally involve rescuing Princess Peach from the villain Bowser. Pratt first rose to prominence in the NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation.” His best known roles include Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies. Pratt also appeared in the “Jurassic World” franchise, and voiced characters in “The Lego Movie” and “The Garfield Movie.”

Anya Taylor-Joy voices Princess Peach, the ruler and head of state of the Mushroom Kingdom. Taylor-Joy’s breakthrough came with a leading role in the horror film “The Witch.” She later appeared in the horror film “Split,” and its sequel “Glass” before appearing in “Peaky Blinder” and starring as the titular lead in the 2020 adaptation of “Emma.”

Charlie Day voices the character of Luigi, Mario’s slightly younger twin, and kind-hearted yet timid partner-in-crime. Day is best known for playing Charlie Kelly on the dark comedy “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” of which he is also a writer and an executive producer. Day previously made film appearances in “Pacific Rim,” “Horrible Bosses” and “Fist Fight.” Day has also worked as a voice actor before, voicing characters in “Monsters University” and “The Lego Movie” franchise.

Jack Black voices Bowser, the King of the Koopas and the main antagonist of Nintendo’s “Mario” franchise. Black began acting at the age of 13 and gained recognition for starring in “High Fidelity,” “Orange County,” and “School of Rock,” which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He later appeared in “King Kong,” “The Holiday,” and voiced Po in the “Kung Fu Panda” franchise. Black was critically praised for portraying Bernie Tiede in the 2011 biographical thriller film “Bernie,” receiving several best actor award nominations. His most recent roles include “Goosebumps,” the “Jumanji” franchise, and “A Minecraft Movie.”

Donald Glover voices Yoshi, the adored green dinosaur that’s appeared in countless “Mario” games. Before stepping into the role of Mario and Luigi’s loyal sidekick, Glover voiced characters like Marshall Lee in “Adventure Time,” Simba in “Mufasa: The Lion King” and Miles Morales in “Ultimate Spider-Man.” Glover starred in the series “Community” and created and starred in “Atlanta.” He also releases music under his stage name, Childish Gambino. In 2024, he led Prime Video’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” 

Academy Award-winning actress Brie Larson plays Princess Rosalina, a princess who hails from outer space. She’s also the adoptive mother of the Lumas, which Larson describes as her “star babies.” An avid video game player and fan of “Super Mario Galaxy,” Larson joins the cast following on-screen roles in films like “The Marvels,” “Captain Marvel,” “Fast X,” “The Glass Castle,” “Room” and “Lessons in Chemistry.” 

Benny Safdie lends his voice to Bowser Jr., the impulsive and eager heir to the Koopa throne. Best known as one half of the Safdie brothers directing duo behind “Uncut Gems” and “Good Time,” Safdie’s most recent film is “The Smashing Machine.” He has also expanded his on-screen presence with roles in “Oppenheimer” and Showtime’s “The Curse.”

Fox McCloud was a surprising addition to the “Super Mario Galaxy Movie” cast, as was his voice actor Glen Powell. Fox is a space pilot from Nintendo’s “Star Fox” video games, but he’s crossed over with Mario, Luigi, Bowser and Peach in the “Super Smash Bros.” fighting games. Fans are hoping that Fox’s inclusion could signal more crossover movies with other Nintendo characters. Most recently, Powell starred in “How to Make a Killing,” “The Running Man” and “Twisters” after breaking out in “Top Gun: Maverick.”

Keegan-Michael Key voices Toad, the loyal Mushroom Kingdom resident who serves as one of Mario’s earliest allies. A versatile performer across comedy and voice acting, Key rose to prominence on Comedy Central’s “Key & Peele” and has since appeared in projects including Netflix’s “The Prom,” Hulu’s “Reboot” and animated hits like “The Lion King” and “Toy Story 4.”

Luis Guzmán voices Wart, the villainous green frog. Described as a “crime lord,” he is the leader of the 8 Bits, a nefarious group, and lives in a casino. Before stepping into the world of “Mario,” Guzmán has appeared in films like Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Boogie Nights,” “Magnolia” and “Punch-Drunk Love,” and Steven Soderbergh’s “Out of Sight,” “The Limey” and “Traffic.” He also played Gomez Addams in the Netflix series “Wednesday.”

Issa Rae voices Honey Queen, the queen bee and ruler of the Honeyhive Galaxy. But “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” won’t be Rae’s first foray into voice acting; the actress, writer and producer last lent her voice to the 2019 film “Hair Love” and 2023’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.” Rae co-created, co-wrote and starred in HBO’s “Insecure,” and has also appeared on screen in films including “The Hate U Give,” “Little,” “The Photograph,” “The Lovebirds” and “Barbie,” among others. 

Kevin Michael Richardson voices Kamek, Bowser’s calculating Magikoopa advisor and informant. A prolific voice actor, Richardson has built a decades-long career across animation, with credits including “Family Guy,” “American Dad!,” “The Cleveland Show” and “Teen Titans,” often lending his distinctive baritone to authoritative or villainous roles.
