Angela worked at Commonwealth Bank for 45 years… her son revealed the brutal gift that left both of them in disbelief: ‘Didn’t feel valued’

An Aussie has revealed his mother was given only some flowers and a service pin from a major bank after working there for almost five decades.
Angela received the gifts to recognise her 45 years of work as a teller at Commonwealth Bank despite spending more than two thirds of her life there.
Her son Nick told Daily Mail the lack of thought that went into the present left his mother feeling underappreciated.
‘She didn’t get a watch, a piece of jewellery or a nice dinner out,’ he said.
‘All she got was a bunch of flowers and a pin to say she worked there for 45 years.
‘She wasn’t expecting much, but she was a little shocked and didn’t feel valued.’
Nick said his reaction was similar.
‘She has a great work ethic, always goes in early and leaves late,’ he said.

‘It made me feel like she wasn’t valued, considering how much time and effort she devoted to that same workplace.’
He said the lesson he took away from the situation was that all workers were just ‘numbers in the system’.
Some Aussies felt sorry for Angela, saying she deserved more than she got.
‘That’s truly sad,’ one said.
‘Set up a wish list so your TikTok family can buy her something special for all her dedication and hard work.’
‘This is so pathetic,’ a second said.
‘A bank can’t afford to give her more than she deserves? She worked there for 45 years for goodness sake.’
However, not all were as sympathetic.

Angela wasn’t happy with the gifts she received
‘You all act like she worked for them as a favour, but she was paid that entire time and chose to stay,’ one said.
‘The bank doesn’t even have to buy her flowers, to be honest,’ another said.
‘It’s a job and she gets paid for what she does.’
Others shared what they received as their parting gift.
‘I work for a big four bank and got a childish laminated certificate to honour my 35 years of service and I put it straight in the bin,’ one said.
‘My mum worked at the Australian Tax Office for 46 years and when she left, she got a trophy,’ another said.
‘My dad worked for a multi-million dollar company for 45 years and once got two movie tickets,’ a third said.
