At least eight dead after hot air balloon crashes in Brazil

At least eight people have died after a hot-air balloon crashed in Brazil.

The incident happened on Saturday morning in the southern state of Santa Catarina, the state governor Jorginho Mello said in a post on X.

Mr Mello initially said an estimated 22 people were on the hot-air balloon when it crashed, but he said in an update that 21 people were on board.

He confirmed that eight people died in the incident and the other 13 survived.

Mr Mello said: “Our teams continue to provide all necessary support to families and victims.

“We continue to monitor the situation.”
