Aussie woman Phoebe’s brutal dating disaster when love-bombing NRL player ghosts her after booking a trip away: ‘It’s really embarrassing’

Love Island Australia star Phoebe Spiller has detailed her latest disastrous attempt at finding romance after claiming she was ‘love bombed’ by a mystery man before he abruptly vanished from her life.

The unlucky-in-love reality star, who was left devastated by her split from fellow Love Island contestant Mitch Eliot in 2024, revealed her latest romance had moved at lightning speed before coming to an equally sudden end.

Taking to TikTok to share the extraordinary dating story, Phoebe joked that calling the experience ‘love bombing’ didn’t quite do it justice.

‘Dating story time with Phoebe, my love life is diabolical,’ she began.

‘I was love grenaded, yep, I’m not even saying love bomb because it was deeper than that, it was more extreme than that.

‘It was more psychotic than that.’

Phoebe kept the identity of her mystery man under wraps, but appeared to hint that he was involved in professional sport.

‘Started seeing this guy, and like, I would name names, but like imagine if the NRL pulled him off the bench, where would he sit every single weekend, so I wouldn’t do that to the guy, I’m much nicer than that,’ she teased.

Phoebe explained the pair hit it off immediately, with their relationship quickly becoming intense.

‘We met each other, things were great, things were moving very quickly and that should have been my first red flag, but I was on f***ing Love Island like we moved at fast speeds.’

‘So, in my brain honestly it was normal, I didn’t see any red flags in it.’

The reality star admitted she was swept up by the attention and affection, describing herself as a ‘lover girl’, by her own admission.

According to her, the mystery man constantly told her he missed her and wanted to spend almost every night together, even after she tried implementing some boundaries.

‘I was like, no, back off buddy, we can’t see each other every night.

‘Obviously I saw him every night.’

Things soon became even more serious, with the new couple making plans for their future and booking a getaway together.

‘I was going to go meet his family,’ Phoebe said.

He had also begun following her friends and family on Instagram and had apparently gone as far as choosing a photograph and song for a planned ‘soft launch’ of their romance online.

Then, without warning, everything changed.

Phoebe said she was attending an event on a seemingly ordinary Tuesday and expected to see her new man later that evening.

She had even picked up a personalised frying pan engraved with his name because he regularly cooked dinner for her.

‘I know that’s really f***ing embarrassing looking back on it, but I was like, “oh he like cooks me dinner every night, he deserves this”,’ she joked.

But the whirlwind romance came crashing down that same day.

While Phoebe initially tried to remain pragmatic about the situation, she admitted she had hoped the pair could at least have a conversation about slowing things down.

‘I was like, to be fair, I’m a bit scared too, like it’s moving quickly, let’s like, pump the brakes a little, like let’s have a chat about it.’

However, that conversation never came.

‘Obviously I don’t get a chat, that would be ridiculous of me to assume we’re going to have a conversation,’ she joked.

‘And then he just also ended it and there was no conversation.

‘So, that was awesome.’

The situation became even more bizarre when Phoebe later discovered something on the man’s Hinge profile that appeared to reference their ill-fated romance.

‘This is where you become a psychopath,’ she said.

‘You’re a sociopath, why the f*** would you put this in your Hinge prompt?’

She added that the prompt stating ‘never have I ever love bombed someone,’ had not been on his dating profile when the pair originally connected on app.

Despite the brutal end to the romance, she was able to poke fun at herself and admitted she is particularly susceptible to grand romantic gestures.

‘Sorry, I’m a really easy person to love bomb, so if you’re gonna brag about something, brag about something else because like it’s not even that impressive.’

‘A leaf could love bomb me.’

Her latest dating disaster comes two years after Phoebe documented the devastating end of her relationship with Mitch Eliot, whom she met and fell in love with while starring on Love Island Australia in 2022.

The couple announced their separation in July 2024 after two years together, explaining that they had ultimately grown apart.

Phoebe later shared an emotional TikTok filmed just eight days after their break-up, breaking down in tears as she asked her followers for advice on how to cope with the heartbreak. 

‘I just feel like I can’t breathe, I feel so alone,’ she said at the time. 

‘It’s been eight days and it’s been the worst eight days of my life.’ 

In her break-up statement, Phoebe admitted she had hoped Mitch would be her ‘forever’ and said she would always love him despite their decision to separate. 

‘As much as I wanted him to be my forever, we ended up wanting different things,’ she wrote. 

‘Regardless of that though, I will always love him.’ Mitch similarly spoke fondly of their relationship, telling Phoebe she had shown him ‘what it’s like to be so bloody loved’ during their two years together. 

The pair’s separation came as a shock to fans, particularly after Mitch had unveiled a tattoo reading ‘P.S. I love you’ on his forearm in honour of Phoebe just months earlier.

Now navigating the dating world once more, Phoebe appears to be taking her latest romantic setback with considerably more humour. 

But after being swept off her feet only for the relationship to disappear almost as quickly as it began, the self-confessed ‘lover girl’ joked she may need to rethink her usual type. 

‘I have to stay away from all professional athletes,’ she quipped.
