Bloodied wife seen in bodycam footage moments after top doctor husband ‘tried to bludgeon her to death with a rock’ on Hawaii cliff

Gruesome police body camera footage showed a nuclear engineer struggling to walk as blood ran down her face after her husband allegedly tried to kill her on a scenic Hawaiian trail last year.

Arielle Konig, 37, has claimed her anesthesiologist husband, Gerhardt Konig, 47, attacked her while they were on the Nuuanu hiking trail near the Pali Lookout in Oahu on March 24, 2025.

Prosecutors allege Gerhardt tried to push his wife off a ledge on the trail and attempted to stab her with a syringe before beating her with a jagged rock.

The attack only ended when the two female hikers heard her pleas for help and called 911, the prosecution argued.

When Corporal Kevin Chun, of the Honolulu Police Department, arrived at the scene, he saw the two Good Samaritans helping Arielle walk down the trail as blood streamed down her head, the body camera footage showed.

The two hikers then helped lower Arielle to the ground near a rocky area, while trying to keep her alert, as they bandaged her head, KHON reports.

‘She was breathing heavy, and her voice was a little bit weak to me,’ Chun testified from the stand last week, as video showed Arielle trying to communicate through hand gestures.

Photos from the scene also showed what appeared to be blood on the leaves and branches on the ground.

Gerhardt admits to bashing Arielle over the head with a rock at an Oahu beauty spot, but claims she attacked him first. His defense has noted that police never found a syringe or evidence that he tried to inject his wife with any substance.

His defense team also pointed to the footage during their cross-examination of the police officer, as they argued that Arielle was coherent and was able to answer questions clearly.

Gerhardt’s attorney, Thomas Otake, previously argued Arielle’s injuries were not as bad as they appeared, and said she only suffered a small laceration to her eyebrow.

A physician from Queen’s Medical Center, though, claimed she had suffered crushed tissue down to the skull.

She also had small pieces of rock embedded in her skin, the doctor told the court.

Investigators were later able to collect the rock that was believed to be used in the attack, which jurors were able to examine up-close.

They then heard how officers were able to track down the suspect following an eight-hour long manhunt.

Gerhardt had fled the scene when the two hikers arrived, and allegedly called his son, confessing to attacking his wife and saying he was going to take his own life.

The anesthesiologist was finally found when Officer Chauncey Nicola was driving by in an unmarked van, and noticed what appeared to be blood on his shirt.

He then chased the suspect into a grassy area, where a struggle ensued, as Officer Riley Borges and other cops joined in the pursuit, according to Fox News.

Together, they were able to force Gerhardt to the ground, and had to strike him several times with closed fists to get him to comply, the officers testified, according to Hawaii News Now.

The body camera footage and photos from the scene built on Arielle’s testimony from the stand just one day earlier, when she said her husband attacked her after discovering text messages between her and her co-worker Jeff Miller.

She testified that her husband would check her phone and emails daily, and tried to order that they have sexual intercourse on a schedule – allegations which were later struck from the court record.

Gerhardt then confronted her while the pair were on vacation and called her a ‘lying b***h’ and ‘whore,’ Arielle said.

She admitted that the messages were ‘flirty in nature,’ but said her relationship with Miller was never sexual or physical.

‘I was apologetic,’ she testified. ‘He was obviously hurt. I was committed to my marriage, to rebuild. It felt like an affair to him. It was an emotional affair to him.’

Arielle later became emotional when defense attorney Thomas Otake had her read aloud the birthday card that Konig had given her on the day of the attack.

The doctor called her ‘angel face’ and wrote that ‘there isn’t an obstacle in this world too hard for me to fight through for you.’

Konig described her as ‘one of the kindest, most giving, and selfless people’ that he knows and said she was the ‘heart of our family.’

He also called her a ‘terrific mom’ and said: ‘I hit the jackpot with you.’
