Bondi hero Ahmed Al Ahmed expected to have assault and stalking charges dropped in dramatic development

Assault and stalking charges against Bondi hero Ahmed Al Ahmed are set to be dropped.

Mr Al Ahmed rose to fame after wrestling a firearm from one of the gunmen during the mass shooting at Bondi Beach on December 14.

The 44-year-old was accused of stalking and assaulting his father at a property in Bankstown, southwest Sydney, on March 9.

He was charged in June and pleaded not guilty later that month.

Police are expected to withdraw the charges at Bankstown Local Court.

During a previously court appearance, Mr Al Ahmed left his lawyer to make a statement on his behalf.

‘It is a family situation he never expected, one would never want to expect, and it must be really difficult for him,’ Mohamad Sakr told reporters.

‘But there is one thing that should be upheld and that is the presumption of innocence.

‘He is a heroic man and his honesty and dignity should be maintained until these matters are ultimately determined.’

Mr Sakr reiterated that his client maintained his innocence.  

‘I believe the prosecution’s case bears some issues and over the next few weeks those issues will be lavished.’

Mr Al Ahmed’s brothers, Hozifah and Sameh, were previously charged with threatening him unless he agreed to hand them a slice of the $2.6million in donations received for his heroic actions during the alleged terrorist attack.

The pair have pleaded not guilty to using a carriage service to menace, harass or offend, and will return to court later this year.

In June, Mr Al Ahmed claimed the relationship with his father had deteriorated after he reported his brothers’ alleged extortion attempts to police.

He alleged his father became angry and pressured him through other family members to withdraw the police complaint against his brothers.

‘He started sending messages with my sister, and he [said] either withdraw the case against the brother, or he will go against me,’ he told 2GB breakfast host Ben Fordham.

Mr Al Ahmed broke down in tears as he denied the allegations against him, claiming that he has never assaulted his father.

‘I’m a very honest, innocent and I am an honourable guy,’ he said.

‘Honestly, I’m disappointed. The situation causes me stress … I am very upset about what has happened.

‘It’s untrue … I’ve never been violent, I am not a violent guy. I hope the charges be dropped because it’s untrue and false information.’
