Before finalising their divorce in December 2024, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were embroiled in a bitter legal battle. From the moment they filed for divorce in 2016, both movie stars have appeared in the headlines, with Angelina accusing Brad of abusive behaviour. Now, the 61-year-old has spoken out about the proceedings since the long-running divorce was eventually settled.
In a feature interview with GQ, the F1 star revealed that despite the divorce taking eight long years to come to a legal conclusion, it doesn’t feel like a big deal to him.
“No, I don’t think it was that major of a thing,” Brad told the publication.
“Just something coming to fruition. Legally.”
For Brad, having his personal life splashed across magazines and articles worldwide is nothing new. He says it’s an “annoyance” that he’s become used to.
“My personal life is always in the news. It’s been in the news for 30 years, bro,” he said.
“Or some version of my personal life, let’s put it that way. It’s been an annoyance I’ve had to always deal with in different degrees, large and small, as I do the things I really want to do.
“So, it’s always been this kind of nagging time suck or waste of time, if you let it be that, I don’t know.”
While Brad says he tries to live his life privately, the media’s interest in his personal life is something he can’t completely ignore.
“I don’t know. Mostly I feel pretty….my life is fairly contained,” he explained.
“It feels pretty warm and secure with my friends, with my loves, with my fam, with my knowledge of who I am, that, you know, it’s like this fly buzzing around a little bit.”

Brad and Angelina first got together in 2004 while filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith, before getting married in 2014. The pair have six kids together: Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19 and twins Vivienne and Knox, 16.
Angelina filed for divorce in 2016. In 2022, Angelina issued a legal complaint accusing Brad of abusive behaviour towards her and their six children during a fight on a plane in 2016. However, Brad denied any wrongdoing.
One of the tumultuous moments of their divorce involved the sale of their winery. The sale agreement broke down when Pitt demanded Jolie sign a non-disclosure agreement about him, which she claimed was part of his attempt to cover up the physical abuse she and her children allegedly endured, according to court documents.
The ongoing divorce was finalised in December 2024.
“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt,” attorney James Simon said in a statement to NBC News at the time.
“She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time, she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family. This is just one part of a long, ongoing process that started eight years ago.
“Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”

Brad is currently dating 32-year-old jewellery designer Ines de Ramon. The pair went public at the premiere of his film Wolfs where they walked the red carpet alongside his co-star George Clooney, and his wife Amal Clooney.
He is currently promoting his upcoming film F1 directed by Joseph Kosinski, where he stars as an old-school former F1 driver named Sonny Hayes who comes out of retirement to zoom around alongside a new rookie driver, Joshua Pierce (Damson Idris).
F1 will be released in cinemas by Warner Bros., dropping in cinemas on June 25, 2025.
