Britney Spears Has Voluntarily Admitted Herself To Rehab Following DUI Arrest: ‘Long Overdue’

Britney Spears has voluntarily admitted herself to a rehab facility following her arrest on suspicion of driving while under the influence last month.
A representative for Spears confirmed she had checked into rehab to multiple news outlets on Monday, saying the move was “the first step in long overdue change” in the singer’s life.
“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life,” the rep told PEOPLE.
“Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time,” they added.
The spokesperson also confirmed Spears will be spending time with her two sons, Sean and Jayden, while other family members “are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being”.
It comes a few weeks after Spears was arrested in Ventura County, California for allegedly driving while under the influence last month.
In a statement, a spokesperson for California Highway Patrol said at the time that the pop star showed “signs of impairment and submitted to a series of field sobriety tests”.
Police also said Spears was driving “erratically” in and out of lanes in the moments before her arrest.

A spokesperson for Spears described the incident as “unfortunate” and “completely unacceptable”, with insiders claiming the arrest had “scared the crap out of her” as she committed to “working on herself” by attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
Spears hasn’t addressed the situation herself, but she did share multiple posts with her sons on social media after the arrest, thanking fans for their support and saying in one video that “spending time with family and friends is such a blessing”.
Spears made headlines earlier this year when she teased a potential Australian tour, saying on social media that she might visit the country “very soon”.
