Canelo Alvarez labelled ‘lucky’ by fans after decision win over William Scull as Mexican is criticised for lack of output in super-middleweight title victory

Canelo Alvarez beat William Scull to become the undisputed super-middleweight champion for a second time but many fans felt he was somewhat fortunate to do so.
Alvarez won the bout via unanimous decision in Riyadh in what was a rather underwhelming affair.
The real entertainment came when it was announced after the bout that a mouth-watering showdown with Terrence Crawford will be taking place on September 12 with the two men facing off in the ring.
It followed a main event that failed to live up to the hype with both Alvarez and Scull taking a rather methodical approach.
Scull, previously undefeated and holding the size and reach advantage, gradually began to throw more but landed little as Canelo had success with body shots.
The Mexican ultimately reunified the titles when the judges scored it 115-113, 116-112, 119-109 but some fans on X felt these scores were unfair.

Some fans felt that the scorecards were a little too favourable towards the Mexican

‘Funny how Canelo wins round without throwing,’ wrote one. ‘He’s a lucky man.’
Another posted: ‘Canelo hasn’t done anything and commentators are talking as if he’s been dominating the round lol.’
Others felt the judges were only ever going to score the fight one way with the Crawford showdown already lined up.
‘Man Scull won that fight they didn’t take points off for hitting below the belt plus Scull was way more active Canelo even thought he lost the fight in the end until the Saudi that promoted the fight pushed that win because of Terrence Crawford. Hope he appeals.’
Another said: ‘Canelo is a fraud bro he really lost this fight but since he’s the biggest name & champ, they can’t let him lose like that. Boring fight but that’s how I bet on it to be
