Charlie Kirk’s family say they will SUE Utah college and police for litany of failures that led to MAGA star’s assassination
Charlie Kirk’s family has signaled that they intend to sue a number of authorities in the wake of the MAGA star’s assassination last year.
Kirk’s family said in a new notice of claim that there was a ‘series of stunning failures and reckless decisions’ in the lead-up to his death on Utah Valley University’s campus on September 10, 2025.
The new document comes just a few days after the one year anniversary of his untimely death, which rocked the conservative world and beyond.
The Turning Point USA founder was 31 when he was killed during an outdoor event at the college while taking questions from an audience of around 3,000 people as part of his organization’s American Comeback Tour.
His alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson, is awaiting trial for murder. He faces the death penalty if found guilty.
Now, his family claims the university failed to conduct a ‘meaningful risk assessment’ before the event, and did not dedicate enough security resources.
A total of six campus police officers were assigned to the event, university police said.
The notice, seen by the Daily Mail, read: ‘Through a series of stunning failures and reckless decisions, the UVU Parties created a foreseeable danger to Charlie.

‘Those decisions ultimately rendered Mr. Kirk helpless to the rooftop shooter in an assassination that could have been avoided had the UVU Parties only taken reasonable steps to plan and oversee a safe event, steps outlined below that have been standard practice for other universities hosting controversial speakers.’
The family mentioned that the authorities in Orem, Utah, ought to have been more thoughtful with planning the event, considering Trump’s assassination attempt from a rooftop shooter just months earlier in Butler, Pennsylvania.
‘The risk of a rooftop shooter should have been especially top-of-mind given the attempted assassination of President Trump, Charlie Kirk’s close friend and political ally, by a rooftop shooter the previous year,’ the notice stated.
