Chris Martin just did the most Chris Martin thing ever — he used a Coldplay concert to plug his ex-girlfriend’s (aka Dakota Johnson) new movie.
Yep, while wrapping up a massive show in Las Vegas on June 6, he grabbed the mic and told the crowd, “Don’t forget to go see Materialists!”
That’s Dakota Johnson’s new rom-com, in case you missed the memo.
The moment was caught on TikTok by a fan named Jasmin and has already racked up over a million views, because of course it has — nothing says ‘we’re on good terms’ like your ex hyping your latest project to a stadium full of people.
Some fans are convinced this means that the couple are actually still together.
“If they really were broken up would he go out of his way to mention Materialists? I don’t believe that,” one TikTok user wrote.
“That’s probably him saying “we’re still together,” said another.

Now, before you start manifesting a reunion moment, here’s the context: Chris and Dakota are, according to multiple sources who spoke to PEOPLE, officially over.
The split was confirmed on June 4, with insiders saying, “It feels final this time.”
They’ve been together since 2017, so that’s a solid run by Hollywood standards, but apparently, the age gap (he’s 48, she’s 35) and the whole “should we have kids?” chat finally did them in.
The Sun reported that Dakota might still want kids, while Chris, who already has two with Gwyneth Paltrow, is apparently done with nappies and night feeds.
Sources told The Sun, “They really tried to work through their issues but the age gap was often a problem. She’d expressed that she may want children in the future, whereas Chris is kind of done with that part of his life.”
The pair were last seen together in Malibu on May 16, and before that, they were holding hands in India in January. But as one insider put it, “They made some beautiful memories as a family and it’ll be hard for both of them to move on after such a long relationship but they will do it.”
So, while they’re officially broken up, Chris’s shoutout is proof that you can still be a supportive ex, even if your relationship status is “it’s complicated” and your fans are busy reading between the lines.
So, are they really broken up? All reliable sources say yes. Are they still friendly? Clearly. And is Chris Martin now the gold standard for ex-boyfriend behaviour? Absolutely — at least until someone else gets on stage and tells 20,000 people to go see their ex’s movie.
