CNN anchor quits after nine years for new opportunity ‘I couldn’t pass up’

CNN anchor Bianna Golodryga has quit her job after nine years because she was offered a new ‘opportunity’ that she said she couldn’t pass up.
Golodryga, who first started as a part-time anchor for the outlet in 2017, shared the news on Thursday.
‘After nine wonderful years at CNN, I’ve decided to leave for an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up,’ the journalist, 48, wrote on X.
‘I’m grateful for the experiences, friendships and support from fabulous colleagues during my CNN years. Exciting news to share very soon!’
It is unclear what her next career move is.
Network boss Mark Thompson announced to staff that Golodryga would be leaving on Thursday morning before she posted about it on social media, a CNN spokesperson told the New York Post.
Golodryga’s final day with CNN will be on Friday, when she will sign off one last time at the end of the broadcast, the outlet reported.
Her co-anchor, Zain Asher, will remain with the station. The two of them hosted CNN’s ‘One World’ international show every morning.

Golodryga is the second CNN departure announced this week after it was revealed that veteran international correspondent Christiane Amanpour is leaving the network after 43 years.
The 68-year-old journalist said she will be leaving her daily program at the end of the year, but will continue to host a weekly show with the outlet through May.
She will officially depart from CNN in June.
Both departures come just a little over two weeks after Paramount Skydance finalized its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, bringing CNN and CBS News under the same roof.
Golodryga first started working with CNN in 2017 as a part-time contributor.
During that same year, she was a guest co-anchor on CBS Morning News before joining the outlet permanently in September 2017.
By 2019, she joined CNN full-time as a senior global affairs analyst.
And before her time at CBS, Golodryga worked as a news and finance anchor for Yahoo. She also co-anchored the weekend editions of ABC’s ‘Good Morning America.’

Golodryga was born in Causeni District, Soviet Moldova, in June 1978. She and her parents came to the US as Jewish refugees in 1980.
The reporter grew up in the Houston area before marrying her husband, Peter R Orszag, in 2010. He is the CEO of Lazard, a financial services firm.
They share a son and a daughter.
She is fluent in Russian and covered the country’s invasion of Ukraine, as well as the aftermath of Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
