Coates to stay at Storm, but there’s a twist with his new deal

Melbourne is attempting to lock down all of its marquee men. Having recently extended the contract of Dally M medallist Jahrome Hughes and progressed negotiations with Coates, the club will now turn its attention to the futures of Harry Grant, Ryan Papenhuyzen and Cameron Munster.

The future of out-of-favour forward Nelson Asofa-Solomona, named on an extended bench for Friday’s clash with the Bulldogs, remains unclear. Any decision on Asofa-Solomona could impact on the Storm’s ability to keep another off-contract prop, Tui Kamikamica.

In a further boost ahead of their blockbuster clash against the Bulldogs, Melbourne has broken its membership record after setting a new mark of 40,23. That figure represents a 40 per cent increase over the past four years.

“The overall Melbourne Storm experience is second to none, we’re lucky to have the best rectangular stadium in Australian sport and our members enjoy great access to players and have a strong emotional connection to the club,” said Storm CEO Justin Rodski.
