Emirates Media Council and "Google" Al-Akhbar concludes a media leadership training program

Dubai, 8 May / WAM / The Emirates Media Council and Google concluded the first phase of the media leadership training program, which was held at Google’s regional headquarters in Dubai Media City, in partnership with the Google News Initiative and Upskill Digital. In the presence of more than 50 leaders and journalists from media institutions and digital platforms.

Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary General of the Emirates Media Council, stressed the importance of investing in the skills of media cadres and developing their capabilities, to ensure keeping pace with the rapid developments in the global media scene.

Al Shehhi said: “We are pleased to cooperate with Google News in organizing a workshop aimed at empowering media leaders in the Emirates with new skills that support their professional careers and contribute to the development of media institutions and enhance their ability to compete globally.”

He pointed out that this workshop represents the first step in cooperation with Google, and will be followed by a series of workshops on the uses of generative artificial intelligence in newsrooms, video creation strategies for content creators, and other new digital skills that support workers in the media sector and contribute to enhancing their productivity and efficiency.

Al Shehhi stressed the Emirates Media Council’s commitment to supporting media cadre development programs in line with the Council’s vision of enabling the growth and prosperity of the media industry and consolidating the UAE’s position on the global media map.

For his part, Mazen Sabbagh, Director of News Partnerships in the Middle East and North Africa at Google, said: “We are happy to hold this training course that contributes to enhancing digital transformation in news institutions in the UAE in cooperation with the Emirates Media Council, noting that Google supports “We have long supported journalists, news publishers and news startups in the region through specialized training and funding programmes, and we are committed to doing more to support digital transformation and innovation in the local news industry.”

The workshop, which was presented by experts from the Google News Initiative and Upskill Digital, to a number of media leaders in the country, shed light on a number of important topics, such as how the media attracts the target audience, measures impact, and increases the audience for news on the YouTube platform. , revenue development, and reviewing best practices for developing news releases using Google statistics, in addition to ways and methods of developing editing and publishing skills in the digital world using various technologies, with the aim of enhancing the skills of media leaders using “Google” products and tools that are useful to media professionals.
