Costco’s $1.50 hot dog-inspired BOURBON is flying off the shelves

Costco is heading into meme-able territory with the latest bottle of booze it’s stocking on shelves – but shoppers can’t seem to get enough of it.

The warehouse retailer debuted a bourbon whiskey called ‘I Got That Dog in Me,’ complete with a picture of Costco’s famous $1.50 hot dog and drink combo on the front.

The bourbon, aged for 11 years and four months, was created in partnership with Rare Character, a company known for its specialty, limited-edition whiskeys.

With a staggering $85.99 price tag, this rare bottle is limited to one per customer at the Washington DC location.

It’s unclear if it will become a permanent addition to all Costco locations, meanwhile the bottle is not available for purchase online.

The retail giant first debuted its $1.50 quarter-pound hot dog and 20-ounce soda in 1985 – and the price hasn’t increased since. If adjusted for inflation, the food court item would be an estimated $4.65 today.

Of course, Costco members took to social media, sharing their excitement at the hilarious – and expensive – bourbon bottle.

‘Subtle notes of hot dog water,’ one Reddit user joked.

For some bourbon drinkers, paying almost $90 for anything aged 11 years is a good deal. One Costco member user confirmed the bourbon is worth the price, claiming they were ‘happy to pay what [they] paid for it.’

‘I get lots of oak, marshmallow, and maybe something spicy that I can’t quite name,’ they wrote. ‘Cardamom or cinnamon maybe? A little leather on the nose for me. The finish goes on forever. Excellent bottle.’

Another Reddit user noted that employees restocked bottles at their warehouse location overnight. By 9:45 am, however, all of the ‘I Got That Dog in Me’ bourbons were completely sold out.

‘Let’s be honest, we were all buying it for the label,’ they added.

‘Finally, a worthy investment for true connoisseurs of the absurd,’ one Twitter user wrote.

Meanwhile, Costco is selling its own Kirkland Signature bourbons and whiskeys, including a ‘Bottled-In-Bond Bourbon’ for $29 to $38 depending on the warehouse location.

Kirkland Signature, a Costco-exclusive brand, has other spirits available for members at generally lower costs than brand-name products.

Costco’s food court remains one of the most popular in America, famous for its ultra-cheap staples including the $1.50 hot dog and soda combo, pizza slices and the $3.99 chicken bake.

The company has also tightened rules around who can access those deals, recently requiring membership verification at outdoor food courts.
