D. Shoman: The spread of corruption in our societies represents a return to pre-Islamic customs

The Friday sermon was delivered today at Al-Azhar Mosque by Prof. Dr. Abbas Shoman, President of the International Organization of Al-Azhar Graduates, and Secretary-General of the Council of Senior Scholars, and its topic revolved around “Addiction is the scourge of societies.”

His Eminence Dr. Abbas Shoman said that the problem of addiction was prevalent in Arab societies before Islam, where alcohol was served to guests as a symbol of generosity, but Islam came to prohibit intoxicants and everything that would dull the mind, due to the serious harm it caused to the individual and society. Because it disrupts the vital functions of the mind and thus increases the risk of self-harm to the individual and harming others around him, its prohibition came not merely out of religious conviction, but rather a wise position aimed at achieving the health and safety of society because the mind is the basis of progress and prosperity.

The former representative of Al-Azhar explained that the prohibition of alcohol was not sudden, especially since almost the entire society was addicted, but rather society had been prepared before it was prohibited, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, began to educate society that the harm in it was greater than its benefit and he left them to work on their minds. “They ask you about wine and gambling. Say, ‘In them is a great sin and a benefit to the people, but their sin is greater than their benefit.’ Then it was followed by a partial prohibition. O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying. And after a while, after they became prepared to abandon it for The complete prohibition came: “O you who have believed, wine, gambling, scepters, and sharp arrows are only an abomination from the work of Satan, so avoid them that you may succeed.” These steps are an abomination from the work of Satan It indicates the wisdom of God in the judiciary, as God takes care of people to accept the solution.

Dr. confirmed. Shoman on the absolute prohibition of alcohol and drugs, and that returning to this waste is a return to the pre-Islamic customs that Islam came to eliminate, and it is unfortunate that we witness a segment of our youth today falling into the clutches of addiction despite the clarity of the prohibition of these substances in our true religion, and this matter calls for all of us. Confronting this danger and addressing the motives that push our youth down this deadly path. Anyone who is lenient in confronting addiction, whether an individual or its founder, is an accomplice in this crime, and neither God nor society will have mercy on him.

The Secretary General of the Council of Senior Scholars warned those who circumvent some narcotic substances on the pretext that they did not exist at the time the prohibition ruling was issued. This is echoed by a group of those who benefit from the corruption of our societies, because the ruling prohibiting alcohol is not related to the type of substance, but rather to its ability to intoxicate and corrupt minds. Whether the materials were present at the time the ruling was revealed or not, because the true criterion is the effect of these materials on humans, not their source.

Dr. called for Shoman young people to wake up before it is too late, because society needs you to produce, so do not be dependent on it. Hospital beds draining money are of no use to you, warning parents and families against being lenient in following up on their children because they are a trust in their necks and they must protect them for fear of falling into the clutches of corruption, and society as a whole must bear the burden. Responsibility and haste to confront this danger before it spreads in our societies.

At the end of the sermon, the former Undersecretary of Al-Azhar called for the necessity of everyone cooperating with the concerned authorities to eliminate the phenomenon from its roots, through Eliminating the hotspots that produce these toxins and spread them in our societies, in addition to working to educate our youth about the danger of these actions that are forbidden by religion and criminalized by law, because the safety of society and protecting it from this danger is everyone’s responsibility.
