Having recently coached his 500th NRL game, Hasler is staring down the first wooden spoon of his career to finish his tenure on the Glitter Strip, with the Titans two points adrift of 16th place Newcastle at the bottom of the ladder.
After a 14th placed finish in 2024, the Gold Coast have won just five games this season.
Hasler’s future has been in the spotlight for months given his original three-year deal contained a clause that allowed the Titans to move on from him as coach if the finished outside the top eight.
While former Eels coach Brad Arthur and Hull KR coach Will Peters have been among those linked to the Gold Coast post, sources speaking on the condition of anonymity have Hannay the favourite to be Hasler’s replacement.
He would be the club’s seventh full-time coach since its inception in 2007, with the coaching churn claiming Neil Henry, Garth Brennan, Justin Holbrook and now Hasler since the start of 2018.
Holbrook was moved on to make way for Hasler midway through 2023, but the club’s win rate has sat at a dismal 28 per cent since.
Along with Hasler exiting, the Titans head of recruitment Ezra Howe has departed to join the NRL’s new Perth Bears franchise, while significant upheaval looms in the club’s roster as well.

Marquee forward David Fifita was given permission to negotiate with rival clubs last week as South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett publicly expressed interest in luring one of the game’s most enigmatic talents south.
Hasler’s post-game press conference after Saturday’s loss to the Warriors descended into a standoff with a reporter around Fifita’s future, with Hasler refusing to comment beyond the 25-year-old being contracted for 2026.
Skipper Tino Fa’asuamaleaui at this stage will also hit the open market on November 1 thanks to options in his lucrative contract – the largest ever signed in Gold Coast history. Rising star Jayden Campbell is also holding fire on the long-term extension offer tabled to him by the club while awaiting clarity on the Titans next coach.
