Donald Trump brutally trolls NBA team for ‘worst trade in the history of sports’

President Donald Trump has plenty of veto powers when it comes to bills from Congress. Too bad he doesn’t have a veto on one of the worst trades in NBA history.

Trump and the Republican Party set up a midterm convention at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on Wednesday.

Amid the discussion of upcoming elections, oil prices and immigration, the President then pivoted to discuss a similarly serious issue: the Luka Doncic trade.

It’s been over a year since the Dallas Mavericks moved their star guard to the Los Angeles Lakers for a package led by the injury-riddled Anthony Davis.

The deal has been blasted by many as the worst trade in NBA history and led to the firing of general manager Nico Harrison months later.

Trump went one step further, suggesting that the Doncic deal may be the worst in sports history.

‘I must tell you, I don’t understand the trade. That trade is not good,’ Trump said in the middle of his speech that lasted nearly two hours.

‘It’s not going to go down as the greatest trade in the history of sports. It might go down as the worst trade in the history of sports.’ 

Trump then walked the statement back and settled on Babe Ruth’s infamous trade from the Boston Red Sox to the New York Yankees as a possible worse move. 

‘Maybe we could redo that trade,’ Trump continued. ‘I redo deals all the time. … I understand deals. 

‘But that one, I didn’t quite get. Somebody from Dallas, I’m sure, can explain it to me.’

The Doncic trade stunned the sports world months after the Slovenian guard led the Mavericks to an NBA Finals appearance. Dallas traded the face of its franchise for Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick.

While the Mavericks did end up winning the draft lottery and picked Cooper Flagg, Davis was moved to the Washington Wizards this past February.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are now firmly Doncic’s team after LeBron James left for the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency.
