‘Don’t Ever Tell Me What To Do’: Jacob Elordi Clashes With Venice Film Festival Seccy

Jacob Elordi’s night at the Venice International Film Festival wasn’t all glitz and glamour, thanks to a brief but loud red carpet run-in with a festival official. The Aussie actor, known for his roles in Euphoria and Saltburn, was out front for the premiere of Frankenstein when things got a bit testy with a security guard.

As captured in video shared to TikTok, Elordi was happily interacting with fans — pen poised for autographs, ready for photos — when a member of event staff moved in, seemingly trying to usher him along.

Elordi didn’t mince words: “I’m going to take a picture right here,” he said to the guard, before following up with a direct “don’t ever tell me what to do”.

It didn’t go unnoticed that, even as he held his ground, he made sure to connect with as many fans as possible — one TikTok user who posted the video said Elordi “was so nice” and “took [a] photo with everyone he [could]” during the event.

The quick exchange set social media alight, with some commenters calling Elordi’s reaction “super rude” and others defending his right to spend time with fans.

“He’s there for your safety. He’s doing his job,” said one TikTok commenter.

“Fans literally waited for hours just for a photo or autograph. He wanted to give them that. He values it. He always appreciated fans love and been grateful,” said another.

It’s a situation where sides were definitely being taken, but nobody denied that Elordi remained gracious toward fans themselves.

Inside the cinema, however, the buzz changed gears entirely. Frankenstein, directed by Guillermo del Toro and featuring Elordi as the Creature alongside Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth, received a mammoth 13-minute standing ovation — the longest of the year’s festival, according to Variety.

Elordi, moved by the reception, was seen in tears, embracing del Toro and co-stars as he bowed to the audience.

Elordi had earlier described his monster role during a Venice press conference as “a vessel that I could put every part of myself into”, adding, “the creature that’s on-screen in this movie is the sort of purest form of myself. He’s more me than I am”.

So while his “don’t ever tell me what to do” might go down as one of the more iconic red carpet moments of Venice 2025, there’s no denying that Jacob Elordi kept his promise to the fans — and managed to make the festival headlines for both the right and wrong reasons.
