‘Embarrassing’ moment Trump sends JD Vance to voicemail mid-speech amid high-stakes Iran peace talks

JD Vance suffered an embarrassing moment at a live rally when he attempted to call Donald Trump, only for the President to send him straight to voicemail.
As the US prepares to launch strikes targeting Iran’s civilian infrastructure, Vance was sent away to Hungary to support the country’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in his reelection bid.
‘I actually had a special guest that asked that I give him a phone call,’ Vance told the Hungarian audience as he begins fumble around with his phone. ‘Let’s hope he actually answers, but this is going to be very embarrassing.’
However as soon as the Vice President attempted to call Trump’s number, he was immediately sent to voicemail. A smile quickly faded from Vance’s face as he tried to call Trump’s number again.
‘Okay, try one more time,’ Vance said as he pressed the phone to his ear.
A few moments passed by as Vance stood quietly on the stage before replying, ‘It’s ringing. It’s progress.’
A few more awkward seconds passed before Trump finally answered Vance’s call, prompting the quiet crowd to erupt into a roaring cheer.
Vance then put the phone on speaker and Trump told the 5,000-strong crowd: ‘I love Hungary and I love that Viktor, I tell you he’s a fantastic man.’

At an earlier press conference on Tuesday in Budapest, Vance was pressed about US and Iranian negotiations as Trump’s deadline looms over the country.
Prior to the Vance’s remarks, Trump said Iran’s entire ‘civilization will die tonight’ after the Islamic regime rejected his peace demands.
Trump told his followers on Truth Social: ‘A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.’
The President’s deadline is set to expire by 8pm ET on Tuesday.
Vance appeared to stumble when asked whether there was any new information on the discussions.
The Vice President initially declined to answer, saying he had just received a text message from Steve Witkoff.
‘Wouldn’t you like the subject of this message? But no, I need to read it first before I talk about it,’ Vance added.
The reporter shot back, ‘I think you have to read that text, because we have reporting that United States is striking some targets in Kharg Island.’
The US hit approximately 50 military targets on Kharg Island overnight, a crucial Iranian oil export hub, as fears grow over a potential ground invasion to seize it.
Bunkers, a radar station and ammunition storage were hit by US airstrikes, according to senior administration officials. Footage emerged on social media showing the aftermath of the destruction on the island.
The escalating military action comes after senior Iranian officials rejected a proposal conveyed by intermediaries for a temporary ceasefire with the US, according to Reuters.
