EU countries need a more integrated defence market, defence commissioner says
A more integrated European Union defence market would strengthen the bloc’s defence industry and enable governments to buy more European defence equipment, EU Commissioner for Defence Andrius Kubilius said on Wednesday.
* It would help small and medium-sized enterprises to grow and innovate, as Ukrainian companies have done in the past years, he told a defence conference in Paris.
* It would make the European defence industry more competitive on a global scale.
* It would enable Europe to “outproduce, out-innovate and outperform Russia, so we can defend ourselves, deter aggression and preserve peace,” Kubilius said.
