Ex-partner of mum found dead in Brisbane River charged with murder

A man has been charged with murder seven months after the body of a mum who was found in the Brisbane River.

Mother-of-two Crystal Beale, 49, was found dead in the water at Yeronga by a rower in the early hours of February 22.

Hours earlier, she was captured on CCTV leaving a restaurant in Sunnybank following a family dinner.

She got into her ex-partner’s car and travelled to West End in the city’s inner-south, where she was allegedly dropped off.

Police initially deemed Ms Beale’s death was not suspicious but launched a homicide investigation weeks later following further investigations and a post-mortem.

Police will allege that she was killed by her ex-partner, who then relocated her body in the river.

Following extensive investigations and examining more than 1000 hours of CCTV footage, detectives conducted a search warrant at a Maudsland address on Monday morning, where they arrested a West End man, 49.

He was charged with one count each of murder (domestic violence offence) and misconduct with a corpse.

The man will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court later on Monday.

Ms Beale’s children, aged 22 and 15, have struggled to come to terms with her traumatic death.

‘Over the past seven months detectives have been tirelessly investigating every avenue possible to find answers for her family,’ Detective Inspector Wayne Francis said.

‘We were not going to give up until we could provide these answers and get justice for Crystal.’

Ms Beale’s daughter has spent months pleading for answers about what happened to her ‘beautiful, selfless’ mother.

‘At first we were assured that her death was non suspicious, this has now taken a horrific turn and I will never be the same again,’ Charlie-Rose Wagner wrote in March.

‘I urge anyone who knows anything to please contact the police with information.

‘Please share everywhere you can. Help me bring my mum to peace.’
