Former baseball pitcher Brian Grant arrested on shock murder charges

Former baseball pitcher Brian Grant has been arrested for alleged murder in North Carolina this week.

Grant, a 2002 MLB Draft pick, has been accused by authorities of murdering a locksmith at his home on Wednesday.

Oak Island police were reportedly dispatched to Grant’s property following a report of gunfire, according to TMZ. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered 61-year-old Randy Stewart dead from a gunshot wound.

Police launched an investigation, which led them to believe Grant was the shooter. He was later taken in custody and booked on a charge of second-degree murder.

The 40-year-old is currently being held without bond, jail records show.

No further details about the incident were made available at this time, and it’s currently unknown why Grant allegedly shot Stewart.

Grant was selected in the seventh round of the 2002 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays.

However, he failed to ever take to the mound in the majors leagues, instead settling for five seasons in the minors.

He pitched for two of the Blue Jays’ farm system teams –  the Medicine Hat Blue Jays and the Pulaski Blue Jays. He also had a stint with the Auburn Doubledays, a former Short Season A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.

Grant registered a 4.72 ERA in 169.2 innings over the course of his career.
