The shooting occurred at 345 Park Avenue, at the corner of 51st Street, in midtown Manhattan. The building contains the large investment firm Blackstone, accountants KPMG and the NFL headquarters – among other tenants – and was placed under lockdown.
Tisch noted that police colleagues in Nevada said Tamura had a mental health history.
He was licensed to carry a firearm in his home state.

“His motives are still under investigation, and we are working to understand why he targeted this particular location,” Tisch said.
The slain police officer was a 36-year-old immigrant from Bangladesh with a wife and two young boys. His wife was pregnant with their third child.
“He was doing the job that we asked him to do,” Tisch said. “He put himself in harm’s way. He made the ultimate sacrifice, shot in cold blood, wearing a uniform that stood for the promise that he made to this city. He died as he lived – a hero.”
Local TV footage showed lines of people evacuating the office building with their hands above their heads. The building also includes the offices of Deutsche Bank and JPMorgan.

New York Mayor Eric Adams said the “violent, despicable attack” was a reminder of how easy it was to get a gun in the United States.
Adams also paid tribute to the murdered policeman. “He was a true blue New Yorker, not only in the uniform he wore but in his spirit and energy of loving this city.”
The city’s emergency management alert system warned of traffic delays, road closures and disruptions to public transportation in the area.
In a separate incident in Reno, Nevada, on Monday, a gunman opened fire outside the city’s largest casino, killing three people and wounding three others before police shot the suspect and arrested him, officials said.
The suspect had no known connection to the victims, and it was unclear if he was a guest or an employee at the Grand Sierra Resort, one of Reno’s most prominent venues that has hosted concerts, sporting events and a campaign rally by President Donald Trump before the 2024 election.

The town – near the California border and just northeast of Lake Tahoe – is a popular summer tourist destination.
Police were still trying to determine a motive for the shooting.
Two victims were in critical condition, while one was treated and released from the hospital, said Chris Crawforth, the police chief of the neighbouring town of Sparks, whose department is leading the investigation.
