Health: 18 addiction treatment centers closed for operating without a license

The Ministry of Health and Population closed 18 unlicensed psychiatric and addiction treatment centers in the Mokattam area in Cairo, for violating health and legal requirements and endangering the lives of inmates, in implementation of the directives of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, to tighten control over private medical facilities.

 

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the Ministry’s official spokesman, explained that the campaign was implemented by a joint committee from the Treatment Department. Al-Hur headed the Directorate of Health Affairs in Cairo, the General Secretariat of Mental Health, and the National Council for Mental Health, in coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Sector of the Ministry of Interior, and the necessary legal measures were taken against the violators.

 

Dr. Hisham Zaki, Head of the Central Administration for Non-Governmental Treatment Institutions and Licensing, confirmed the continuation of sudden monitoring campaigns nationwide to ensure that all facilities adhere to quality and safety standards. Patients.

 

For his part, Dr. Ahmed El-Nahhas, Head of the Central Administration of the Technical Secretariat of the National Council for Mental Health, pointed out that the closed centers violated the Medical Facilities Law (51/1981 and its amendments) and Mental Health Law (71/2009), and lacked infection control standards, environmental requirements, and precautionary measures, which exposes inmates to serious health risks, including the possibility of the spread of diseases.
