Health hosts an international workshop to enhance preparedness and provision of services for migrants and refugees

Today, Tuesday, the Ministry of Health and Population opened an international workshop in cooperation with the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), entitled “Enhancing preparedness, response, and provision of health care services in the context of humanitarian crises affecting migrants.” It will last from December 16 to 18, 2025, with the participation of representatives of international and regional organizations, public health experts, and a number of countries.

 

The doctor explained. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry’s official spokesman, said that the workshop aims to strengthen regional capabilities in confronting the health challenges associated with displacement, amid the rising numbers of displaced people globally due to conflicts, violence, natural disasters, and climate change, with a focus on the risks of infectious diseases.

 

He stressed that Egypt’s hosting of this event reflects its pivotal role in strengthening regional and international cooperation for public health, and supporting joint efforts to protect the groups most vulnerable to crises. Humanity.

 

“Abdul Ghaffar” continued; The workshop discusses mechanisms for enhancing preparedness and response in cases of sudden mass displacement, and the challenges resulting from infrastructure damage, in addition to enhancing multi-sector coordination.

 

The activities include presentations, discussion sessions, and interactive working groups, to exchange experiences between participating countries on preventing and controlling infectious diseases in the context of displacement.

 

Public health specialists from countries participate in the workshop. Europe’s Southern and Eastern Neighborhood, representatives of European Union countries, along with international partners such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and other relevant organizations.
