Here’s How Much My Kitchen Rules Contestants Are Reportedly Being Paid For Being On The Show

While My Kitchen Rules (MKR) is not known for its behind-the-scenes gossip, there is some salary tea that has cooked up in the reality TV universe. So, clutch your mugs, ‘cos we’re taking a sip of this hot goss.

Although you’d think most contestants who hop on MKR are gunning it for that sweet, sweet prize moolah — which has ranged from $250,000 to $100,000 in the last couple of years — they do score a cheeky bit of dosh for appearing on the show.
How much do you get paid to be on My Kitchen Rules?
According to 2025 MKR contestants, Michael ‘Meat Master’ Edelberg and Rielli Portegys, the pair have revealed that the “pay is reasonable” without dropping specific digits.
“I would say that the pay is reasonable, definitely liveable, and yeah, very fair,” Michael told Chattr.

While the 2025 duo have remained tight-lipped on the exact $$$ of their weekly MKR allowance, 2019 contestant Piper O’Neil revealed contestants were paid $1000 a week for appearing on the show, with $500 going towards their appearance and another $500 as an allowance to buy ingredients for the meals they cooked up on the screen.

In a 2014 interview with news.com.au, Anna Lisle, who appeared on the show alongside her mother Cathy, dished that the weekly wage they got on the show “was tight”.
“It was tight, especially because Mum and I were obviously cooking a lot, practising, and spending a lot on ingredients. But at the same time, the whole production is very full on, so you don’t have a lot of time to spend money,” she told the publication.
“For me, it was hard being on the show financially, but contests are on there for the opportunity, the experience and the chance to fulfil their dream, not to make money.”
While the money was quite “tight”, Anna admitted that appearing on MKR was a “long-term investment” as “results don’t necessarily happen overnight”.
Honestly, as someone who has no desire to jump into a cooking comp like MKR, I thought the pay would be a lot more, considering the contestants are working so hard on their meals! It’s what they deserve, plus the cash prize, IMO.
