Horror end to couple’s romantic camping trip as wife allegedly murders her tradie husband – and his shattered father reveals grim new details of their volatile marriage

Just hours after returning from a camping trip to celebrate their eighth wedding anniversary, a wife allegedly ran over her husband in a car outside their family home.

Bradly Bullock, 50, died from critical injuries outside his Stoneywood Street home in Fernvale, 60km west of Brisbane, about 5.55pm on Sunday.

His wife, Lacey-Jay Bullock, 45, is accused of killing him with their white Holden Commodore station wagon, two months after she was banned from driving for two years.

Bullock was arrested at the scene and has now been charged with one count of domestic violence murder and one count of disqualified driving, and the vehicle has been seized.

The couple had just returned from a camping trip on Bribie Island, 136km north-east of their home.

Posting a picture of their camping setup to Facebook on Friday, Mr Bullock said, ‘Happy anniversary honey. Couple [of] days at Bribie. Xoxo’.

He died two days later in his driveway in front of his son Hayden, 25.

On Monday, the victim’s father, Dave Bullock, revealed the couple’s marriage had been violent and volatile.

‘[Lacey] is one sheila Brad should never have met, given everything that’s happened over the years,’ he told the Daily Mail. 

‘He came out of jail late last year to live with us, and stayed with us for six or seven months and we straightened him out. He even stopped drinking. 

‘But when his parole was up, he found a job as a welder close to home [in Fernvale] and went home.

‘I won’t go into detail… but nothing I have to say about Lacey would be fit to put in a newspaper.’ 

Ipswich District Detective Inspector Mick Manago on Monday confirmed the couple were known to police for ‘domestic and family violence matters’. 

‘We’re very committed to keeping the public safe, so it’s something that I don’t condone and has no place in society.’

The couple shared two children, Hayden and Layla, and Mr Bullock was a father figure to Beth, his wife’s daughter from a previous marriage.

Mr Bullock, 74, said Hayden, who he said had special needs, witnessed his father’s death, and added: ‘I spoke to Hayden last night. He’s not doing too good.’

On Monday, Mr Bullock’s stepdaughter Beth posted a tribute to her father on social media.

‘In the evening, we lost our dad,’ she wrote. ‘I don’t even know how to deal with losing you. We will never be the same again.

‘I will always love you and miss you. You adored us and and my kids and your absence will be felt forever. Our dad.’

Neighbours reported hearing raised voices before the incident and are believed to have detained the accused until police arrived. 

It is understood neighbours also tried to give CPR to Mr Bullock before paramedics arrived. However, it was too late, with Mr Bullock having sustained critical injuries. 

‘I was arriving home with my wife and kids, and we got flagged down saying there had been a massive incident just around the corner,’ neighbour Kyle Wilford said.

‘I found the body on the floor and started CPR straight away. Unfortunately, the man had no pulse.’

Bullock was held at the Ipswich watchhouse ahead of her appearance at Ipswich Magistrates Court on Tuesday. 

Mr Bullock said he spoke to his son around a week ago, and last saw him in August.

Both men loved vehicles and were in the process of restoring a 1972 Triumph Bonneville motorcycle together. 

‘I will miss him, for the rest of my life, however long I’ve got,’ he said.

‘If you have kids, hug them close. You never know when the last time you’re going to see them.’
