A driver has been rescued from a horror wreckage after his bus ploughed into a tree splitting the vehicle in half.
Emergency services were called to Modbury Interchange, near the Tea Tree Plaza Interchange Park’n’Ride, in northeast Adelaide, following reports of a bus crash at about 9:30am on Friday.
The force of the collision split the front of the bus in half, with the tree trunk remaining inside the middle of the vehicle.
The front seats of the bus were crumpled and glass shards from the windshield were tossed across the crash site.
SA Metropolitan Fire Services firefighters worked to free the driver from the bus – an operation which took about 20 minutes and involved specialised cutting tools.
The driver, a man aged in his 40s, suffered significant injuries and was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
Police confirmed there were no other passengers on the bus at the time of the crash.
The bus interchange at Tea Tree Plaza is currently closed, affecting 20 public bus routes.

Passengers are being advised to allow for additional travel time for service detours and are urged to check the Adelaide Metro website for affected routes and updates.
