"Implementing radiation safety standards is on the right track" In a session at the Population Conference

The Ministry of Health and Population organized a dialogue session entitled “Implementing DRL radiation safety standards on the right track.” Within the activities of the third edition of the World Conference on Population, Health and Human Development 2025, held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, during the period from November 12 to 15 in the New Administrative Capital, under the slogan “Empowering Individuals… Promoting Progress… Providing Opportunities”, with the aim of enhancing the concepts of radiation safety and ensuring the safe use of radiation techniques in the medical fields, which contributes to improving the quality of health services provided to citizens.

 

The doctor explained Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the Ministry’s official spokesman, said that the session focused on radiation reference dose levels (DRL) and their role in monitoring radiation practices and measuring the safety of doses to which the patient is exposed, noting that the General Administration of Radiology is working to standardize doses for each radiation examination according to the type of device, to reduce unnecessary exposure and ensure patient protection.

The session also discussed mechanisms for determining dose levels, the role of artificial intelligence in tracking and analyzing dose data, and guidelines issued by international organizations such as the International Commission on Radiation Protection, which reflects the Ministry’s commitment to the highest safety standards. And quality.

Dr. Mohamed Fawzi, Advisor to the Minister for Radiology Affairs, stressed the Ministry’s continued efforts to develop training and oversight programs, and to strengthen national and international partnerships to ensure the safe use of radiation in the health sector, in a way that protects patients and achieves the optimal use of radiological techniques.

The session was moderated by Dr. Heba Ahmed Shukran, Radiodiagnostic Consultant and Director of Quality Management at the General Administration of Radiology, and Dr. Nabil Al-Bahr, Nuclear Medicine Consultant, with the participation of Dr. Khaled Al-Shahat, Professor of Medical Radiation Physics, and Dr. Hisham Abdel-Gawad, radiation protection expert and director of health, safety and environment, and Dr. Siham Al-Saadani, head of the Scientific Council of the Health Accreditation and Regulatory Authority.
