
The Ministry of Health and Population organized a discussion session entitled “Strengthening global health security by enhancing preparedness, response, and the One Health approach.” Within the activities of the World Conference on Population, Health and Human Development in its third edition, sponsored by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, with the aim of reviewing Egypt’s efforts in strengthening global health security and implementing the One Health approach that combines human, veterinary and environmental health in an integrated system.
Dr. Amr Qandil, Deputy Minister of Health and Population, stressed that the recent pandemics and health crises have proven that global health security is a collective commitment that goes beyond the responsibility of one sector, stressing the importance of the One Health approach in facing challenges.
He added that Egypt has taken advanced steps in developing its national system by strengthening surveillance systems, enhancing the capabilities of rapid response teams, and deepening the partnership between the sectors concerned under the umbrella of this integrated approach.
For his part, Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the Ministry’s official spokesman, explained that the session reviewed the Ministry’s achievements in the regional and international health security file, including public policy making, developing the implementation of international health regulations, and strengthening surveillance, laboratories, and response. For emergencies.
It also focused on the agenda of scientific research priorities in the field of One Health, to direct applied efforts towards critical national issues such as antimicrobial resistance, food safety, climate change, environmental health, and diseases shared between humans and animals.
The session was attended by Dr. Michaela Martini, regional migration health consultant for the Middle East and North Africa region, and Dr. Nouf Sulaiman Al-Numair, Secretary-General of the Ministerial Committee for Health and Policy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
