I thought my date was ‘hot’ for ordering a steak – then she gave me the ick when she sent it back
Matt Zukowski found his date even more attractive when she ordered a steak on their first date.
But the ex-husband of Tammy Hembrow was instantly turned off when his date sent her Scotch fillet back because it wasn’t cooked to her liking.
‘Tell me if I’m being too mean or hard about this but I went on a first date with this girl. Banter was fine, chats were elite, drinks are flowing,’ Matt said in a video.
He said the date got off to a good start as they enjoyed entrées including oysters and beef tartare.
When it came time to order their mains, they both chose a Scotch fillet cooked medium rare.
‘I thought it was hot that she was ordering a steak. I was like, “A first date… that’s pretty hot”,’ he explained.
‘We keep chatting, it’s all good. The steak comes out. She cuts into it and she’s like, “Oh no, it’s well done.”
‘Mine was well done (too) and I was like, “You know what? Who cares, it is what it is. Let’s just eat it.’

However, his date refused to eat her steak well done.
‘She’s like, “I’m not eating this. I want mine medium rare”,’ he explained.
‘So she calls the waiter over, the waiter comes over and she sends her steak back.’
As they were waiting for her steak to come back out, Matt said he felt put off.
‘I don’t know… I found it a bit icky that she sent it back,’ he said.
‘Am I being too hard or am I being too picky? I don’t know, it just gave me the ick a little bit.
‘I also do like my steak medium rare as much as the next guy.’
His video has been viewed more than 180,000 times – with many taking issue with Matt for being ‘too harsh and picky’.
‘You’re totally being too harsh, a steak is a sacred thing. It needs to be medium rare,’ one said.
Matt quickly responded to the criticism, saying: ‘I’ll give it another chance then.’

Many defended the woman’s actions, with one saying: ‘I like that she sent it back! She’s not afraid of pleasing you and others around her. Good for her.’
‘There is nothing worse than ordering a steak that’s well done if you want medium/rare. They aren’t cheap either. She knows what she wants and that’s a pretty good quality to have,’ another suggested.
‘Well done steak is gross, I would absolutely be sending that back,’ one said.
‘There’s no way I’m eating a well done steak. It’s icky that you expect me to shut up and eat it,’ another added.
‘Food is expensive, it’s okay to expect it to be the way you want it. As long as she was kind to the waiter,’ one revealed.
A majority of women agreed, saying they would be sending an overcooked steak back if they were spending upwards of $50 on a medium rare steak.
‘I’m absolutely here for the send back, we pay for a service so I’d expect that service. Steak just has to be cooked to your liking,’ one suggested.
‘If we are paying over $45-50 for a steak, I’m absolutely sending it back if it’s well done,’ another added.
