The Army officials said the troops noticed suspicious movement along LoC in Kupwara late on Monday night and challenged the intruders. There was a brief exchange of fire between the two sides. “Based on specific intelligence input by J&K police and corroborated by sources and agencies, regarding a likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by Indian Army and J&K Police in Machhal Sector of Kupwara on Oct 13, 2025,” the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said in a post on X.
The Army said that the troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged it, resulting in infiltrators opening indiscriminate fire. “Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists. Large quantities of weapons and equipment seized,” read the statement. The operation is in progress.
The Army officials said infiltration attempts tend to rise before snowfall to exploit the narrowing window before harsh winter sets in. As per the officials, infiltrators wait for suitable conditions, including bad weather, to make infiltration bids. The police and Army have maintained that despite February 2021 ceasefire, infiltrators have managed to cross LoC and border and are active in Jammu and some parts of Kashmir.
