Lady Gaga Recalls “Unhinged” Criticism Of ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’: “A Ton Of Negativity”

A year later, Lady Gaga is reacting to the negative reviews around Joker: Folie à Deux after “pouring” herself into the role of Harley Quinn.

The Oscar winner recalled finding the harsh criticisms of the DC movie to be “so unhinged,” while admitting the experience was “a little bit more painful” when the fallout lasted for longer than expected.

“There was a ton of negativity around Joker. And I think I was feeling artistically rebellious at the time,” she told Rolling Stone.

“I wasn’t, like, unfazed. It’s funny, I’m almost nervous to share my reaction,” explained Gaga. “But the truth is, when it first started happening, I started laughing. Because it was just getting so unhinged.”

With tied 31% critic and fan ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, Joker: Folie à Deux earned Razzies for Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel and Worst Screen Combo for Gaga and Joaquin Pheonix‘s Joker.

Gaga added, “When it takes a while for something to kind of dissipate, that can be a little bit more painful. Only because I put a lot of myself into it.”
