MasterChef’s Vinnie Responds To ‘Winner’s Edit’ Claims

While there are claims that MasterChef Australia is one of the more wholesome shows on the reality TV roster, it is not spared accusations of editing the show and its contestants. Even in its finale, fans were making claims that 2026 victor Vinnie Gibaldi was handed the “winner edit”. Here’s what the season’s champ had to say.

To give you a bit of context, the MasterChef Australia grand finale was quite the nail-biter, with Vinnie miraculously winning the competition despite an overcooked duck, a quick pivot, and concerns over his pastry skills.

With so many bumps in the road — in comparison to runner-up Petro Papathomas — fans believed that Vinnie got some extra special treatment when it came to the edit, with some claiming that the editing had foreshadowed the winner.

In search of what the top dog thinks, Vinnie admitted to PEDESTRIAN.TV that he’s unsure that a “winner’s edit” exists. However, he does believe the show’s editing is solely to provide entertainment and to tell a story, highlighting that his cooks were missing from previous episodes.

“I don’t know, like if there’s such thing as a winner’s edit, because really we’re all kind of just doing our thing,” he shared.

“I feel like there are some episodes where I’m like not in it at all, and it’s just because my cook wasn’t that interesting. Like nothing really happened.

“If I was watching a show, I wouldn’t really want to watch someone where nothing happened during their cook. Like I’d want to watch something interesting as well at the same time, right? I feel like in the competition, I showed a lot of growth — coming from a real rustic Italian cook to being able to do something like that in the finale shows a lot of growth, and I feel like that’s like a good story.”

While MasterChef Australia has had ‘hero’, ‘winner’ and ‘redemption edit’ accusations thrown around, I will give the show kudos for not having a ‘villain’ one. After all, it is one of the more wholesome shows on the TV guide. But, with it now officially done and dusted, we’ll have to wait another year for the next round of wholesome cooking — and the annual Curtis Stone cameo.
