Well, folks, it’s the first Monday of May, which not only means we can judge freakish Met Gala looks from the comfort of our pyjamas, but that we’ll also be treated to some celeb tea — this year courtesy of Hugh Jackman.
The actor’s split from Deborra-Lee Furness has reportedly left Met Gala organisers “in a panic” over a potential run-in on the red carpet.
According to New Idea, Furness is expected to attend the glitzy fashion event — taking place today at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art — alone for the first time, after announcing the end of her 27-year marriage to Jackman back in September of 2023.
Making matters worse, Met Gala organisers are apparently fretting over the possible appearance of Sutton Foster, Jackman’s new girlfriend whom he went public with in January.
Seeing your ex is rough at the best of times, but while decked out in an uncomfortable costume in front of flashing cameras while their new boo is nearby? NOPE!
“It’s a nightmare because no one knows if Hugh is bringing his girlfriend along,” a source told the outlet.
“Hugh and Sutton have been talking for months about stepping out as a couple at the biggest night in fashion.”
The insider went on to reveal that the possible red carpet love triangle would especially sting because the Met Gala has “always Hugh and Deb’s thing”, having appeared together at the event multiple times over the years.
Last year, though, Jackman climbed the Met Gala steps alone, which shouldn’t have been too tricky for someone with the quads of Wolverine.
The panic around a potential red carpet run-in is so high that the insider claimed Jackman went as far as reaching out to Furness to ensure he wouldn’t bump into her.
“It would be a PR nightmare if they crossed paths, especially since they’re barely speaking,” the source said.
While objectively less glamorous than the Met Gala, Jackman and Foster recently made another public appearance at an In-N-Out restaurant, where they were snapped smooching in the drive-through because even superheroes need a hangover feed.
For her part, Furness — who hasn’t exactly avoided being messy amid the split — was reportedly “relieved” to see images of her ex and his new girlfriend, since they apparently confirmed her previous suspicions of their budding romance.
Whatever the case, if Jackman and Furness do cross paths at the Met, I’ll need a lip-reader on call and a bucket of popcorn… all while wearing my $5 Kmart PJs, of course.
