Mother-of-two, 53, reveals her dramatic transformation after ditching makeup, fake tan and Botox – as she says she’s ‘changed for the better’

A woman has revealed just how different she looks after giving up numerous beauty products and cosmetic treatments – but she has no regrets about it.

Personal trainer and fitness influencer Billie Steele, 53, started giving up makeup, fake eyelashes, fake tan, hair bleach, Botox and fillers about 12 months ago, in an effort to ‘cut off [her] vanity supply’.

Billie, from Australia, recently posted a video update on Instagram about how phasing beauty and cosmetic ‘stuff’ out of her life made her feel.

She shared a clip of herself when she used to wear a full face of makeup, including foundation and contour, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, fake eyelashes, and lipstick, while wearing a low-cut, skin-tight dress.

The video then cut to Billie filming herself sitting in her car with her tied up in a bun and not a stitch of makeup on her face, as she braves going completely natural.

She wore a sports bra and leggings as she spoke directly to her over 196,000 followers on Instagram.

While the change in her appearance has been dramatic, Billie said she feels she has been ‘changed for the better’ due to her decision.

However, she has also spoken about wanting to return to doing her makeup and hair because she ‘misses what [she] used to look like’.

Now, Billie is less sure about whether she will go back to ‘doing all that stuff’, because giving it up is ‘changing me and it’s changing the way I think about myself and it’s changing the way I see the world’.

‘When I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s, looks were everything,’ she said.

‘What you looked like, what job you had, how much money you had… Value, as far as I can remember, was rarely placed on whether you were a good, kind and trustworthy person.’

In her caption, Billie wrote: ‘Stripping back the external to get access to the internal has changed me.

‘It’s changed me for the better.

‘My value isn’t tied up in my looks like I once thought it was. I am valuable because i bring quality to other people’s lives through my actions.

‘I love all that beauty stuff and I’ll definitely do them again one day but I’ll be doing them for different reasons this time around.

‘I don’t need to look a certain way, I know that now, I want to look a certain way and there’s a BIG difference between the two.’

Billie previously went viral after she shared how she lost 20kg and managed to ‘reverse’ her age in the process to look 20 years younger.

Before she turned 50, Billie said she became unhappy with her appearance because she ‘looked pregnant’.

Her weight fluctuated after having children and menopause, and other issues in her life also contributed to the unwanted weight gain.

‘I was 20kg overweight, I was in pain and discomfort. I was on anti depressants and strong pain killers, I was pre-diabetic, I was in a toxic relationship, I was perimenopausal,’ she recounted in one video.

‘l was drinking alone and to excess, l was eating loads of fast food & takeout, I wasn’t exercising, I was binge watching Netflix, I had no self care, self love or self respect.’

Determined to lose the weight, Billie focused on eating in a calorie deficit, walking 10,000 steps a day and embarking on a weight lifting journey, as well as ‘pretty much quitting alcohol’.

But in June, she shared a video explaining why she had decided to give herself ‘an extreme makeunder’ after her extreme makeover.

Detailing her journey since 2021, which was the year Billie decided to go on her weight loss journey, she shared that in 2022, she started to ‘darken my brows and lashes’ and bleaching her hair.

In 2023, after losing more weight, Billie darkened her eyebrows again and started wearing thicker fake eyelashes.

The following year, she ventured into fake tanning and bleached her hair to an even lighter shade of blonde.

2024 was also the year she started getting Botox and filler, as well as getting professional makeup lessons so she could learn more techniques.

Fast forward to 2025, the year of the ‘makeunder’, as Billie called it, and she looked drastically different.

Although her hair is still light blonde, her eyebrows, eyelashes and skin were all noticeably paler.

‘I loved treating myself to an extreme makeover when I succeeded in losing 20kg,’ she wrote.

‘I saved up for years so I could give myself all the beauty treatments, cosmetic treatments and professional makeup when I reached my weight loss goal three years later.

‘I don’t regret any of it. But I want to know who I am now, without the treatments but still with the weight loss & optimal health.’

Billie continued in the video she shared in June: ‘I want to know why I got all those things done and the only way to know ‘why?’ is to not have them done.

‘It’s been over a year without any Botox and filler and seven months without all the rest.

Many fans commented in support of Billie's journey, but several people pointed out that women should be able to do what they want to make themselves feel good

‘This is a very interesting experiment and I’m finding out so much about myself!

‘Maybe I’ll do another extreme makeover or maybe I won’t, I don’t know. Either way it’s an exciting time in my life.’

Her fans shared words of encouragement and admiration for the personal trainer’s self-reflective journey.

‘Billie, I’m fascinated by this part of your journey…. Outer beauty is lovely, but falls flat and seems shallow without the deep cultivation and inner growth of a beautiful character. How wonderful to enjoy both,’ one person wrote.

Another said: ‘This gave me chills. I went through this same thing, and I’m on the other side and love myself more deeply than I ever have. Keep going.’

A third commented: ‘Good for you Billie, you made an amazing transformation, you’ve confirmed you’re happy in your own skin, you still look great and you are fitter and healthier and so whatever you choose, you’ll still be happy, healthy and confident.’

However, several followers were of the opinion that women can do whatever they want as long as it makes them feel beautiful, whether or not it involves makeup, Botox, fake tan, and more.

‘I get lashes, Botox, fake nails, dye my hair, because it makes me feel better in myself,’ one person chimed in.

‘Do YOU, what makes you happy.’

Another added: ‘Now wait a minute. You look beautiful either way. My grandmother used to say not every day was a dress-up day because when you get dressed up no one will know the difference.

‘Yes, make yourself feel and look beautiful everyday as long as you are doing it for you and not for others.

‘As long as you show up for you everyday that is all that matters.’
