Norway v England LIVE: Thomas Tuchel handed double fitness boost as fans descend on Miami for World Cup quarter-final

Heat, humidity and Haaland: Why Norway can upset England in World Cup quarter-final

As the England squad reached a sweltering Miami, there were naturally a few wondering whether it was better to not play Brazil in this weather. It is set to “feel like” 45 degrees on Saturday, due to humidity that can rise to 80 per cent, which means it’s probably preferable to face a country partly based in the Arctic Circle.

Thomas Tuchel and his staff, however, would instantly caution against such thinking – not least because Norway are likely a better team than Brazil. Given how much the England manager has talked about “brotherhood”, Tuchel enthuses about the spirit in the Norwegian camp.

The win over Mexico illustrates how England are developing an emotional momentum of their own, with the post-game ritual of “Wonderwall” now forming their own version of Norway’s viking row.

Norway team news after illness strikes

Several of the Norway squad are shaking off a virus, even if manager Stale Solbakken, along with the team doctor, has played down stories of a widespread illness making its way through the changing room.

One of those affected was Crystal Palace striker Jorgen Strand Larsen but he is said to have recovered, along with every other member of the team.

Right back Julian Ryerson continues to battle a hamstring issue but is expected to start.

England sweating over fitness concerns

The defensive injury crisis isn’t exactly disappearing for Thomas Tuchel.

England are concerned particularly over the fitness of Marc Guehi, who has a slight hamstring strain that is worrying regardless before a meeting with club colleague Erling Haaland.

Declan Rice, too, has been kept away from the rest of the squad as he deals with an illness amid fears of it spreading.

Both did return to training on Friday but their involvement may still be up in the air.

Another big question surrounds whether Reece James is fit to return at right back as he continues to battle a hamstring issue.

Should he be unavailable, Tuchel must decide whether to use Ezri Konsa there or star Djed Spence on his weaker side.

Jordan Henderson is out because of the freak arm injury sustained when celebrating in Mexico.
