If you thought the fallout from Katy Perry’s apparent date with Justin Trudeau was over, think again, because the pop star’s ex-fiancée, Orlando Bloom, has just entered the chat.
ICYMI, the “Roar” singer sent us into a Blue Origin orbit earlier this week when images of her sharing a meal with the former Canadian Prime Minister sparked rumours that the unlikely pair were dating.
Since then, Trudeau was again spotted attending Perry’s concert in Montreal and sources close to the pair claimed their meeting was nothing but platonic, but Bloom has now offered his two cents courtesy of a meme shared by satirical publication The Onion.
The spoof newspaper, known for its hilarious headlines à la The Betoota Advocate, shared what appeared to be an AI-generated image of Bloom enjoying dinner with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, in a clear reference to his ex’s similar date with a fellow world leader.
“Orlando Bloom was photographed Friday dining with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel,” The Onion’s caption jokingly quipped.
The meme sees the unexpected pair smiling across a candlelit table, and appears to be generated from an original image that actually pictured Trudeau, Merkel, and German diplomat Christoph Heusgen having an IRL dinner back in 2016.
Clearly enjoying the parody, Bloom flocked to The Onion’s Instagram comments to share his reaction. He chimed in with a series of applause emojis, proving that he’s not only in on the joke, but aware of his ex’s recent rendezvous with Trudeau.
The Onion’s post adds to the broader hullabaloo surrounding Perry and Trudeau’s supposed relationship, with some sources claiming the pair are just friends and others telling People that they “are interested in each other”.
Perry and Bloom called it quits last month after a six-year engagement, while Trudeau separated from his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, back in 2023.
It remains to be seen how the rest of this saga will play out, but following The Onion’s lead, I half-expect us to next see Kevin Rudd on a dinner date with Ariana Grande.
Of course, that’s purely fictional, but for some strange reason I kinda ship them?
