Piers Morgan responds in row over Arsenal’s celebrity fans being on the pitch for Premier League trophy lift

Piers Morgan has jokingly responded after fans questioned how he had been able to enter the pitch and join in with Arsenal’s Premier League title celebrations.

Morgan and his sons Bertie, Stanley and Spencer were all seen on the pitch after Arsenal had lifted the Premier League trophy at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

The Gunners had been presented with the trophy after beating Crystal Palace 2-1 on the final day of the season.

Arsenal were confirmed as champions for the first time in 22 years earlier in the week, after Man City had failed to beat Bournemouth.

Following Arsenal’s trophy lift, Morgan was among several well-known Arsenal fans to make their way onto the pitch.

The fans included Eastenders star Jake Wood and comedian Jack Whitehall, while Line of Duty actor Adrian Dunbar had also been seen in the stands with Morgan prior to the final whistle.

Morgan later shared photos from the celebrations, with the broadcaster and his sons pictured with numerous Arsenal stars and their manager Mikel Arteta.

Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Viktor Gyokeres and captain Martin Odegaard were among those to pose with Morgan.

One fan responded to a photo of Morgan celebrating with Rice, writing: ‘Why was Piers Morgan & his clan on the pitch at Selhurst?

‘Nowt worse than celebrity fans muscling in on things. Especially one who called for Arteta’s head on several occasions in the early years.’

Morgan responded: ‘Maybe because I had the foresight to buy 4 tickets at the start of March when I had a feeling it might be a momentous day for the club I’ve supported for 55 years.

‘As for Arteta, he proved me and a lot of people wrong, and I couldn’t be happier about it.’

When another fan questioned how the tickets secured Morgan and his family access to the pitch, the broadcaster added: ‘I didn’t pay for Declan to run over and put his winner’s medal around my neck for a souvenir pic, that’s true. But I was thrilled that he did.’

Morgan then wrote ‘Only the good-looking ones’ after another fan had responded : ‘All the away fans were allowed on the pitch for photos with the players? Wow!’

Following the on-pitch celebrations, Morgan was seen having a celebratory drink with Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke as the Gunners continued to toast their long-awaited success.

Some Arsenal fans had unfavourably compared Morgan to celebrity chef Salt Bae, who famously gained access to Argentina’s celebrations after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which included him kissing the trophy.

Others had also highlighted how Morgan, who is among Arsenal’s most vocal fans, had called for Arteta to be sacked as manager in 2022, prior to leading the club’s stunning resurgence.

‘Super Mik Arteta. The man who brought the glory back to Arsenal after 22 long and often tortuous years,’ Morgan wrote after sharing a picture of him and his sons with Arteta on the pitch.

‘What an honour to see him with my sons on the day we were crowned Champions. Thanks Mikel Arteta.’

Arsenal, who eventually finished seven points clear of Man City, will now turn their attentions to winning the Champions League for the first time.

The Gunners will face reigning champions PSG in the final in Budapest on Saturday.

Morgan stated he was ‘very very confident’ that Arsenal would claim European glory.
