Police respond to reported ‘hostage’ situation in Bomaderry, Nowra

Residents are being urged to steer clear of a reported ‘hostage situation’ unfolding in the NSW South Coast suburb of Bomaderry.

Emergency services have swarmed Ritchie Street, with police warning the public to avoid the area as the incident continues.

Authorities have released few details about what is happening, but locals have reported seeing a large number of police vehicles and emergency crews racing towards the scene.

‘On our way back from Wollongong and there were so many cop cars and emergency vehicles speeding through Berry. It must be pretty bad whatever is going on,’ one resident wrote on social media.

Another added: ‘More police are still coming. We drove past and have seen another three undercover cars with sirens on, a Fire and Rescue truck and a paddy wagon boosting down the freeway towards Bomaderry.’

‘We’re all the way up near Kiama now and there are still more emergency vehicles heading south.’

NSW Police said no further information is available at this stage.

Updates will be provided as they become available.
