Pregnant woman forced to live in a TENT after getting evicted from home despite never missing rent

A pregnant woman in California has claimed that she’s been kicked out of her home and forced to live in a tent after suddenly being evicted – despite paying her rent.

Ida Maynor, who is eight months pregnant, had been living at the La Mirage Motel in Bakersfield, California, for a few months before she was abruptly kicked out.

The distraught mom-to-be told KGET that she and her husband, Jovon Jackson, will now be forced to live in a tent.

‘We’re gonna tent up and I know that this year they passed a law that we can’t even sit out on the streets or be homeless on the streets because it’s against the law now, the desperate mom said.

She added: ‘I don’t know what we’re gonna do.’

Jackson explained that they were paying $650-a-month to live in the motel.

But the room they had called home for months was taken away overnight when all of the tenants were kicked off the property on Monday, leaving them homeless.

The couple said they were woken by police, telling them they were being evicted and had to leave immediately.

They said they took everything they could, leaving in a hurry.

‘We need help… resources, housing, job placement, anything,’ Jackson added.

The motel was forced to close in January with the county’s environmental health department suspending the owner’s license for several violations.

Those violations included no hot water, exposed electrical, broken smoke detectors and vermin infestations.

In total, 10-15 people were evicted from the property. Police arrested three people on outstanding warrants and one for resisting arrest.

‘They’re arresting the homeless… so why are they putting us out now? Just to arrest us and put us behind bars?’ said former resident Guadalupe Montoya.

Montoya, who has Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and a lung infection, said she is unsure how her health will fare amid her sudden change in living circumstances.

‘My tank’s almost empty and I have another thing that needs to be plugged up,’ she told the news outlet.

Last year, a homeless pregnant woman was ticketed by a Kentucky cop after she was found sitting down on the street, despite telling him she was in labor and waiting for an ambulance.

Lt. Caleb Stewart, a Louisville Metro Police Department officer, claimed he ‘did not believe’ the woman after she was heard on body-camera footage claiming she was ‘leaking’ and ‘in labor.’

‘I’m waiting for an ambulance, I might be going into labor,’ the unidentified woman told the LMPD officer, according to body-camera footage. ‘Is that OK?’ she asked.

The woman appeared to be grabbing items from the encampment set-up underneath the overpass when Stewart got out of his car and approached her.

She told him she did not have a phone, but her husband had just left to go find one and make a call.

The officer telling the woman: ‘You’re being detained because you’re unlawfully camping,’ before asking once more when her baby was due.

He also was seen writing the citation before handing it to the woman, telling her he issued her a citation for ‘unlawful camping.’

According to her attorney, Ryan Dischinger, the woman gave birth to a baby boy later that day.

The LMPD has since issued a statement claiming that its officers have offered her resources for shelter twice before the late September encounter, all of which she declined.
