Qantas plane forced to make a sudden U-turn just four hours after takeoff from Sydney Airport
A Qantas plane flying from Sydney to Johannesburg was forced to make a sudden U-turn after pilots were alerted to a technical fault.
The A380 was just south of Tasmania when it suffered a fault with its satellite communications just four hours after takeoff on Tuesday morning.
The satellite is essential for pilots when flying over large bodies of water.
QF63 left Sydney Airport just after 10am and had over 400 people on board, who were provided with accommodation for the night.
It’s understood the service is now scheduled for Wednesday.
No emergency calls were made by the pilots.
Engineers will review the plane and determine the cause of the fault.
The flight from Sydney to Johannesburg takes 14 hours.
