‘Ransom Canyon’ Lizzy Greene spills the secrets of her beauty bag

If you’re not already familiar with Lizzy Greene, expect to be before too long. The actress is part of Netflix’s most-talked about new series, Ransom Canyon, an addictive new Western drama that’s quickly risen through the streamer’s ranks. It’s a fitting turn for Greene: born and raised in Texas, she’s already got a little in common with her on-screen counterpart, Lauren, a cheerleader and the daughter of the town sheriff, with ambitions well beyond her home in Ransom. In real life, Greene’s own ambitions also took her far from home, first with a role in Nickelodeon’s cult Nicky, Ricky, Dicky and Dawn,  followed by ABC’s hit series, A Million Little Things.

It makes sense that, growing up on film sets, Greene has learned a thing or two about good skincare and makeup. Below, she’s spilling the secrets of her beauty bag with RUSSH, from her pre-red carpet ritual, to the best piece of makeup advice she’s ever been given.

Describe your approach to beauty in three words…

Easy, beachy, youthful.

What is your morning beauty routine?

Always, I start by washing my face. I’ve been really into ice rolling lately so I’ll run downstairs, grab my roller, and depuff / wake myself up with it. I love using it like a Gua Sha, basically for drainage, focusing on my temples and behind my ears. Then, I’ll put on a ton of sunscreen, take my vitamins (collagen included), and quickly brush my hair. I’m a big perfume girl – so I mix a bunch of those depending on the day and I’m done.

What is your evening beauty routine?

Shower, then use the Osea Undaria Algae body oil, then apply body cream. For wet hair, I use the Innersense Quiet Calm Curl Control Cream and the Olaplex No.7 Bonding Oil on my ends, scrunching it all up. For skin, I use a rice water toner and a collagen boosting serum, then top it all off with the Shiseido Night Cream. Then I brush my teeth! I also wear perfume to bed… because why not?

What’s your earliest beauty-related memory?

I remember doing theatre as a kid and my mum every so often putting mascara on me. Each time was such a big moment for me because I felt like a real grown up. Being nine, it was breaking the seal for an addiction to beauty and skincare. I graduated to lip gloss after but wasn’t allowed to wear eyeliner in my day-to-day life until I was 15. I remember being so bummed because this during the era of super full-coverage makeup. I rarely wear eyeliner now.

As an actress, I imagine you’ve worked with countless amazing makeup artists. What is the piece of best advice they’ve shared?

My first every makeup artist on Nickelodeon told me to think of makeup like a colour wheel when it comes to eyeshadow. Since I have blue eyes, I should lean towards warmer colours. This advice changed my life.

Do you have any rituals that help you prepare for a red carpet or big event?

Facial massages always feel so wonderful. Whether it really makes a difference, I’m not quite sure, but it definitely feels like I’m ridding my face of all the water retention, so I’m sure the newfound confidence afterwards sells it. Eye patches also work magic for me as I am someone with genetic under eye circles, and colour-correction works great under my eyes as well. So long as I look like I’ve had 20 hours of sleep, I’m happy!

How does your approach to beauty differ from your Ransom Canyon character, Lauren?

I think we are quite similar actually. My makeup artist, Kat, gave me all the makeup she used on me after we wrapped – so I use so many of the same products she used on me for the character. Lauren is very natural with how she does stuff. I remember during our makeup test, they said that the other girls could have more fun makeup, but they always wanted mine to seem quick, since she’s the head cheerleader and always on the go. I think that was a really fun detail, so everything is super minimal. Every once in a while, we’d use lipliner for an event in the show and that’s probably the biggest difference between us, is that lipliner is one of the products I can’t live without.

What’s one beauty product you can’t live without?

Charlotte Tilbury Foxy Brown Lip Cheat liner… I swear by it. I love a brown lip liner more than anything. If I could say two – I’d add the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Ebony.

And what’s one product you imagine Lauren can’t live without?

Sunscreen. She’s a West Texas athlete who’s always out in the baking heat. I know growing up in Dallas, I couldn’t survive without it either!
