Sam Newman’s stunning new claim after hosting Nazis on his podcast

Controversy magnet Sam Newman has claimed neo-Nazi Blair Cottrell ambushed his podcast and that he never invited the extremist to be on the show – despite interviewing him for almost an hour.

Newman drew heavy criticism for hosting neo-Nazis Thomas Sewell and Cottrell on his You Cannot Be Serious podcast which was released on Monday.

Sewell is the leader of the European Australian National Socialist Network and is also the founder of the Lads Society.

In 2023 he was convicted of assaulting a Channel Nine Network security guard and was sentenced to an 18-month community corrections order.

Cottrell is a founding member of the United Patriots Front and the Lads Society.

He was convicted of inciting hatred in 2017 and had attempted to appeal the decision in the Victorian court of appeal in 2019 but his case was knocked back.

The episode featured discussions on sensitive topics like the Holocaust and Adolf Hitler, sparking condemnation from anti-hate groups.

Then Cottrell created even more controversy, posting an image with Sewell and Newman, and then a video splicing old footage of Newman with Nazi war propaganda with the caption ‘was Fossil our guy all along?’

The former AFL Footy Show host has now released another edition of his podcast, where he speaks at length about the controversy and vehemently denies being a Nazi supporter or sympathiser.

Newman said the image that Cottrell posted had sparked media attention, with News Corp contacting the former Footy Show star and asking him if he was endorsing neo Nazis.

‘That turd tried to link me to the cause. I tell you what, you are a piece of crud and you are just deliberately being mischievous,’ Newman said.

‘It was Cottrell’s post on X that started the ball rolling.’

Newman labelled Cottrell a ’24 carat scumbag’ and denied any involvement, affiliation or endorsement of neo Nazis.

Now Newman has claimed he never invited Cottrell to be on the podcast, and that he just tagged along with Sewell.

‘He wasn’t invited, and he thought he is a star f***er. He thought he’ll link me to his cause, and he’s posted pictures of me on the Footy Show and then war, Nazi marches in the background, claiming, you know, trying to link me to his cause,’ Newman said.

‘Cottrell turned up, and in his p***y little world that he lives in, his diminutive, p***y little world where he can’t make it on his own, he tries to link people with stronger juices … he’s a parasite.

‘I have Muslim friends, many of them, I do not have any friends who are Nazis or Neo Nazis, none.’

Newman was also challenged by the chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission Dvir Abramovich who said hosting the neo-Nazis on the podcast was a ‘moral collapse’.

‘Sam Newman has now plunged into the depths of disgrace rolling out the red carpet for these men,’ Abramovich said.

‘These two men have been accused of the faces of hatred, and Sam Newman has just handed them legitimacy on a silver platter by giving them a platform.

‘Newman has spat in the face of Holocaust survivors, trampled on the legacy of the courageous diggers who died.’

Newman fired back at Abramovich and challenged him to come on the podcast.

‘To Mr. Abramovich, seriously, now, here’s an invitation to you. Mr. Abramovich, I’d love you to come in here and sit opposite me and say what you have said on that, say that to my face.’ Newman said.

‘And if you got the courage to do that, or maybe you’re a coward.

‘I interviewed these people because the paper, the media make them people of interest. And I thought, well, I’ll interview two people of interest.’

‘As I say, I have no friends, and do not wish to have any friends who are white supremacists, Neo Nazis, fans of Hitler’s.

I have several friends who are Muslims. I have several friends who are Jews or of the Jewish fraternity.

‘Thomas Sewell was respectful. I don’t respect what he said, but I respect the fact that he was respectful.

‘The other bloke was here just to push his own barrow, and he … should be ashamed of himself just for trying to take this in a direction It was never meant to [go].
